Today, we rode the bus down into Florence with 41 kids on holiday from Spain. They too are staying up here in Settignano. We went on to the Uffizi Museum to see paintings of Botticelli, Caravaggio, Giotto, Da Vinci, and others, plus some old Roman statues and some great tapestries. We both get on overload after an hour or so. From there, we took photos of the Ponte Vecchio and then walked across the Ponte Vecchio. Several times in there we stopped for either café or gelato. We snacked on cheese, prosciutto, bread, and fruit near a park where we intended to eat. We didn’t snack inside since we were too cheap to pay 10 euros to get in.



The internet at our “cozy” room doesn’t work, so we’re heading out to the local Caffe for dinner and internet service.



Italians have their rules that must be followed, but then you never know. Sally had a reservation for us for tomorrow morning at 10 am to see the Michelangelo’s David, and we were trying to figure how to see it and then make a mad dash to catch the train for Rome. We were scoping out how long it took to walk from the David to the train station. On the odd chance that today the Italians were not on a rule following kick, I asked if we could go in today instead of tomorrow. “Certo!” (certainly),” the guard said and lifted the rope for us to enter. So, we saw the David and several other statues of Michelangelo’s that weren’t finished or were junked (not sure why.) so now we can leave in the morning early, ride the slow train and still get to Rome just after noon.
