I've had a pretty tumultous couple of weeks, with my Grandfather falling ill and passing away. Its so hard being so far away from your family and friends at times like that, but fortunately I have a great network over here and everyone has been so supportive. It was also really sad having to say farewell to Renee and Sutto last week. Nic, Smiley and I all went out to the airport too see them off, and as expected tears were freely flowing. They're off to South America, then home to Melbourne to have a bub! It's very exciting, but also a bit wierd for me, she's one of my best friends, and one of my first friends to have a baby.

Anyway. Simon and I decided to get out of London for a weekend and visit his aunt Gail. Gail was very hospitable and it was nice to have a quasi-family figure to make you cups of tea and look after you. We spent saturday being tourists and doing the open-top bus thing (well until 2 hours of sitting in traffic got the better of us) then wandering round the city. Cambridge is a beautiful university city, and the colleges are right in the centre of town, so the city almost revolves around the students. The colleges are absolutely amazing, and very rich! Apparently the richest - Trinity college is worth something in the realm of billions of pounds and owns a country/island/part of the moon or something.

As it was end of semester and the begining of summer the city was busy, especially on the river Cam which was packed with punters! Si and I decided not to try our hand at punting ourselves so got a tour of the city and colleges lead by one of the students. What an eventful trip that was. An old timer took a possibly lethal tumble and I stuck out my hand and tried to catch him. Luckily he was a little shaken but ok, and my hand wasn't broken, still a little sore though. Back to Gails for a lovely dinner and a couple of glasses of wine. The next day we went to visit the beautiful cathedral at Ely (named as such because it used to rely on eels as the main source of income!). The tour took us through the cathedral and right to the top, and we got some lovely views over Cambridgeshire. After Ely we went back for some lunch, went to the local pub to watch the England game then caught the train back to london. Lovely weekend overall!

Last weekend was our house party, and was not as huge as we hoped possibly due to Englands loss, and lots of people were out of town. We went to our local to watch the game, then back to ours for a bbq and sangria. Was good to catch up with a few people I hadn't seen in a while, including Simo from oz, who was over for the world cup! That made 3 Simon's and 2 Simone's at the party. Was great to catch up on a bit of goss from home and hear about the crazy antics from the football!
In other exciting news Kate is coming over at the end of August and we are off to Turkey together!! I'm also really looking forward to mum coming over in 4 weeks! I love having visitors!
Now its sunday and I'm slowly recovering from El's house party last night. I blame the punch.

wow - all so pretty!
Hey Sim, Love those photos! I don't think I'll find architecture as beautiful here and my uni doesn't compare with Cambridge (Wellington hospital is one of the ugliest buildings in town!). But NZ is beautiful (as Si will attest to, I'm sure!). I hope you're well... oh and try the recipe with refried beans for a vege option, maybe even add some cumin, coriander and tabasco for a mexican flavour! Ok, I talk too much! love, SJ
