So after a little bit of a rough time with the buses, we arrived in Hue Vietnam after 26 hours. We ended up at a great guesthouse with the cutest little old lady running it. She took quite a liking to kristen and I and was very concerned for our saftey at night. Before we left she always made sure to give us a hug and a pat on the bum, it was pretty funny. Because of our time constraints we only stayed in Hue one night and one day. Most of the day there was spent walking around and checking out the town. after coming from Laos that is not very developed it was great to be in the bright lights of a city.
The next day we hopped on another bus, and were starting to feel like rock stars....5 cities/2 countries in 4 days. We arrived in Hoi An sick of buses and very hot so we decided to treat ourselves to an actual hotel room at the ridiculous price of $10 a night. it was great, there was soap, bathtub, air-conditioning, swimming pool and free tooth brushes!! kristen got a little teary-eyed when we got in the
Japenese Covered Bridge
A bridge in Hoi An that was made in the 14th century room (she was delirious i think). with not that much time to waste we immediatly went about the town known as the tailoring city. there are tailor shops everywhere that are so cheap, it quickly gets expensive. however with kristen by my side I was able to keep it all in check.
After another one nighter in Hoi An we got on yet another bus to Nha Trang. This was the place kristen had been dying to see because we would finally get to a beach! We were told by some people we met in Hue of a great guesthouse and guided ourselves there at 6 am. However check out wasn't until 8 am, so we had to sit around and wait for a room to open. an english couple were doing the same, james and emma. so when the rooms had finally became available and we had a little cat nap, the four of us made our way to the beach. Kristen was in heaven, i was trying my best not to become a lobster. We decided to settle down for once and spent all of 3 days in Nha Trang. The second day four of us were
up bright and early to board a boat that brought us to the islands aroung Nha Trang. All was going very well, we went swimming and snorkeling at the first island. This is were there was amazing coral reefs but alot of jelly fish that were stinging us frequently. When we got on the boat, it finally hit me...the thing that i thought i had out grew...my sea sickness. well i spent the better part of the day hanging over the side of the boat. the crew kept trying to make me feel better and started giving me hebal remedies that they were putting in my belly button and behind my ears. after that didn't work they made me drink some. it was probably the grossest thing i've ever encountered in my entire life. But after about an hour, the world stopped spinning and i was able to feel like a human again. you know at 23 years of age and i still get car sick and sea sick and every other kind of sick, i'm worse than a child! Our last day in Nha Trang we hit up the beach yet again. this time there were alot of vietnamese
Cu Chi Tunnels
About to enter the tunnels not knowing what i was about to get myself into tourists around. At one point a group huddled around us and started pointing and laughing at Kristen. she was writing in her journal and i was just laying there, so we weren't really sure what we were doing that was so funny. finally after quite sometime we realized that they were laughing because she was righting with her left-hand, they kept saying "wrong, wrong". I thought it was hilarious, but kristen now keeps refering to how lefty's are universally discriminated against.
We left Nha Trang the next night and made our way on, yes you guessed it, another night bus to Saigon/Ho Chi Minh city. Since Bangkok I wasn't really looking forward to a big city, but I love it here!! There's a market were you can get fake designer purses for $10...i'm in heaven. All our time hasn't been monopolized with shopping though (yes mom/dad i'm taking in some eductional experiences...not just shopping), we've seen some great sites. We went and took a tour of the Cu Chi tunnels one day which was great. You got to crawl through the tunnels that the Viet Cong actually lived in while in hiding. We got to walk 150 m through
Cu Chi Tunnels
At the beginning of the tunnels, still not knowing what i was getting myself into them, and i don't consider myslef a claustrophobic person, but i started to freak out a little. i can't even imagine how they did that for years. As well today we went to the war muesem which was very educational, but so sad.
well we're off to cambodia early tommorrow morning. I hope everyone is doing well.

Car sickness memories....
Had to laugh at your comments about always getting car sick - it reminds me of our road trip out to Vancouver at Easter -89. After only about five minutes in in the car, you threw up all over my lap! It was a very long drive..... Take care and enjoy the rest of your trip!
