In the Florida KeysWe are on the road heading to New Mexico for a very different kind of adventure this year. We are going to be volunteers at Sevilleta National Wildlife Refuge which is about 50 miles SE of Albuquerque. The nearby towns are Socorro and Magdelina. The volunteer coordinator said we should expect to be doing something different every day. That sounds like just what we are looking for, except for knowing what kinds of clothes to pack; nice stuff in case we are in the welcome center and gift shop , or grubby stuff for working outdoors. Then there are the temperatures to contend with. Three weeks ago it was -2 at night in that area. We have packed a lot of long underwear! The N.Mexico tourist info says they have sunshine 364 days a year, but minus temps are going to be cold even if the sun is shining.

While kayaking with John and Doreen in the Keys we saw this guy on the shore. He looked like an enormous inflatable - but then he eased into the water. projects take place there.

We left on Sunday and drove for about 11 hours that day. We stopped for the night in a Missouri welcome center rest area and crawled into bed in the camper. It was still mighty chilly - 46 degrees - but lots of blankets kept us warm. At 4 a.m. there was a knock on our door. Ron answered and it was a woman begging for money to buy gas for her car so she could get home. Ron gave her $20 and wished her well. Since we were up, we got underway again.
We are currently in the Lake Bob State Park in Texas. We aren't due in the Refugee until Jan. 4, so we have time to wander across Texas.
We haven't taken any pictures on this trip so I'm just going to post some of my favorites from other trips.

Tammy - so good to hear you are once again on the road. We are in New Mexico at the present time also. We are in the little (and I do mean tiny village) or just outside of Rodeo, New Mexico. This is our third stay at Rusty's RV Ranch and we like it here although as you mentioned, temps can go way down at night. We left Columbus, New Mexico in the Pancho Villa State Park on Christmas Eve to head west the 84 miles to Rodeo. We ended up leaving a day later because we had 2-3 inches of snow in Columbus. We Michiganders know how to drive in snow but......the locals down here not so much! We arrived at the RV Park with sunshine and a dwindling of the snow. The park is owned by Rusty and her husband Tim who are helped by her Dad, and Mom. They put on a Prime Rib dinner for Christmas and it was great. Potluck and as luck would have it no two people brought the same dish!! We will eventually head west to Arizona and from there who knows!!!! Be well, enjoy the refuge and the work. Jackie
