I got drowned setting up camp on our arrival in Sydney
Hi all

Just a quick update. We've been pretty busy on the road for the last week, staying at Yamba, Tuncurry, Sydney, Wollongong, Jugiong and are now finally nearing Melbourne. We decided not to take the coast road on the way down from Sydney, other than visiting friends in Wollongong. We plan to return via the coast.

We had an exciting journey through the mountains from Wollongong yesterday morning. The Macquarie Pass is so steep and windy for about 30km and we weren't sure if the car would manage the climb. Apart from that, the road is also very narrow in places and if any semi's came the other way we might have been stuck on the hairpin bends. I didn't like the thought of reversing the van down the mountain?? Luckily though we didn't meet with any problems and the old Prado just chugged along in 2nd all the way up. The temperature gauge didn't waver from normal!

After spending the night in the quaint little village of Jugiong, we have travelled today to Benalla, about 3 hrs north of Melbourne and it's bloody hot. Got to 30 today?? Thankfully though, it will

cool down to 15 overnight so we should get some sleep. The construction of the Hume Freeway has meant that many little towns have been bypassed and now rely on travellers taking a break and driving in for a look. Even the well-known town of Glenrowan (of Ned Kelly fame) has been bypassed.

It feels really strange to be sitting here at nearly 9.00pm and it's still light? It gets dark at 6.30 - 7.00pm on the Gold Coast at this time of year? We'll be heading off at 8.00am tomorrow to be in Melbourne before lunch.

Ellie, Greg and the girls left for Melboune this afternoon and have stopped at Warwick for the night, before making a beeline for Melbourne tomorrow. They expect to arrive sometime on Sunday morning.

My sister Jean's daughter and family are in Melbourne for Xmas so we hope to catch up with them before we head to Phillip Island where we will meet up with Pete, Laura and her parents for our Xmas get together.

I will do another update after all the merry-making is over.

Love to all
