Well have made it to Lima, Peru, 10 hour flight from Auckland to Santiago in Chile, 8 hour stop over in Santiago, then a 3 - 4 hour flight to Lima.

Please bear in mind that this is being written after only getting a few hours sleep in the last three days.

Arrived in Peru about 1130 pm local time. Hot, noisy, crowded airport, heaps of taxi drivers touting for business. Luckily had a taxi already arranged.

The drive to the hotel like the airport was hot and noisy. Heaps of cars on the road, people on the streets, the use to the car horn seems to be an integral part of driving...

Anyway got to the hotel, and everything was okay, finally got to sleep about 2 am.

Today, too tired to do much, but I did spend 3 or 4 hours walking around the suburb of Miraflores near the hotel.

Noisy busy streets, especially for a Sunday. Buses with their destinations written along the sides. Someone standing in the doorway of the buses yelling out destinations. Taxis honking horns as they pull up to the kerb. Taxis and all other cars honking horns for seemingly any reason ... turning, going through an intersection, stopping at lights, going at lights, scaring some birds on a traffic island in the middle of the road .... Money changers on the streets ready to show you that their calculators arenĀ“t dodgy. Kioskos selling newspapers. Shoeshine stalls. Police, security guards with guns. Really young children 4 or 5 years old selling souvenirs on the streets. Souvenir sellers trying to get you to come into their souvenir stalls ...
