Let's see, I arrived in Copenhagen from Sweden on the 13th after a long disastrous ride. I strategically left Uppsala in order to make the next train in Stockholm only to find that this train was full. I managed to get a reservation on the following train and spent my time using up my Swedish Krowns and talking to these Romanian kids who were traveling with acordians trying to earn a living. I gave them the rest of my Krowns as well as the pages out of my guide book that convert Romanian to English and English to Swedish. They were very friendly; we communicated in a mix between Spanish and Italian.

I took that next train only to arrive in Malmo where my train to Copenhagen had been cancelled. Good thing though because I had fallen asleep on the previous train and had managed to leave my railpass onboard. Ten minutes later I realized it only to find that the cleaning staff had already cleared the train of all extraneous papers and trash. Luckily, after digging through some bags of trash on the platform with one of the platform agents, we found my train pass (phew!) and I boarded the next train to Copenhagen.

Again in Copenhagen the train to Nørreboro was cancelled so I again had to wait and run around platforms until I found the right train. Then I had to take a bus to find my couchsurfer, which I managed to sneak onto (considering I had no Danish Krowns) yet it was hot and crowded like my previous transportation. On top of that, the guy I was supposed to couchsurf with decided to put me up with a friend, because his previous couchsurfer lost his next couch, so I was met by the friend instead of the guy I had been speaking with. Luckily his friend was cool (he is 31 and originally from Romania) and we went back to his place, had some beers, and watched the rest of the soccer game using some tinfoil and random cords to connect the computer to the cable jack and an overhead projector.

My original host came over so I got to hang with him as well. They were all cool, in their early thirties, single, living it up in Copenhagen and traveling all over the world.

The next morning I ventured out not really in search of anything. I decided that I was pretty churched and museumed out for the time being so thought I'd explore a bit. I met some people along the way, managed to get pretty lost, and ultimately ended up a half an hour north of Copenhagen in a tank top and flip flops, freezing my ass off because the sun had decided to turn to clouds and drizzle, looking for the Louisana Modern Art Museum. I eventually found the museum, saw some interesting video exhibits and whatnot and then headed back, again out of money (this city is so damn expensive, worse than Sweden). Pulled my same little trick on the bus (how I love being unnoticeably short sometimes) and came home to hang out with Dan, the guy I'm staying with. We then met the other couchsurfing guy again and his current surfer, who is from Spain, and had some drinks; it was all pretty uneventful. Today I'm heading to Christiana, the hippied-out part of Copenhagen. Apparently in the past it was one of the biggest drug trade areas in Europe but the city has begun to crack down and is slowly shutting the place down. It's still supposed to be an interesting place to visit, so I thought I'd rent a bike and head down that direction after having lunch in the graveyard where Hans Christian Andersen is buried. That's all for now...

Nap time
Stop falling asleep on trains, Mel...someone may be smart enough to just steal YOU :). Make sure you update your map of places you've been.. be safe.

keep having fun
Mel, Copenhagen is a very interesting place, but when I (steven)was there it felt a lot like being in the states. It felt much less continental than the rest of Europe. You might want to venture up to Elisingnor, home of Hamet's castle. I'm sure you've seen their guardian mermaid. All the train mishaps are reminiscent of our adventures on the Italien trains--you can't count on things being reliable except maybe in Switzerland. Did you check out the jewelry in Denmark-I (mommy)still wear some of the silver I bought there 30+ years ago. I agree with Danielle-You need to be careful--you really have been very lucky that noone has taken advantage of you , and thank goodness that you were able to retrieve your Eurail pass!

Please be careful
You have 7 weeks left kiddo. PLEASE continue to be careful, ok? Your mom agrees with me and you should ALWAYS listen to your mother! :)Be safe and keep having a blast. You're in a fantastic position right now, given you have the luxury to be traveling so frequently and for the duration of time that you have. Post some more pictures when you have time. Miss you.
