WOZ ERE 2006 .... Hows that for cheese!!?! hahaha
30hrs, 3 buses and 1 ferry later we finally arrived in Ushuaia, the most southern city in the world!! Its a small city at the bottom of the Andes which was exciting.... the first time we had both seen a real life proper mountain! However, mountains generally mean snow and snow... cold!! Brrrrrr..... I nearly lost my fingers and toes to frostbite on numerous occasions!! The journey wasn´t too bad considering the astronomical length but transport seemed to get worse the further south we headed. We ended up on a clapped out rust ridden minibus weaving round icy mountainous roads in snow!! An adventure all in itself!
We stayed with a lovely couple (Hostel Aonikenk) who on our last night cooked up a right treat for dinner...... ARMADILLO!! Mmmmmm.... Claudio had caught it himself and much to my horror was running around the front room with the empty shell on a stick! Claudia, his wife, was wetting herself at his antics! Yes, they were called Claudio and Claudia which did have us a bit miffed for a while.
We found ourselves slightly out of season for everything. There was not enough snow
to go snowboarding or husky sledging, much to our disappointment! Too much snow to do some of the walks. You couldn´t make it up!! Eating, drinking and football became to body of our days. I taught myself how to make coleslaw (I know... it´s not hard!). Since though, I have got a bit carried away and we are now eating coleslaw every day!
As soon as we arrived in Ushuaia I was cursed! I lost things, broke things, melted things, got lost, fell over and even managed to explode a seriously good shepherds pie in the oven!!! Gray kept telling me bad luck came in 3´s but for me it was more like 10´s!!
Ushuaia was beautiful though... like something out of Narnia, and we did have 1 or 2 active days. We went to the Tierro del Fuego Nacional Parque with some adrenalin junkies we met in our hostel which was good fun.
All in all, Ushuaia was well worth the 8 stamps in my passport.... yes 8!!!

Ps. Not only were we on Buses for 30 hours, but for the first 27 of them, the landscape didn´t change! The East coast
Us
walking in Tierro del Fuego. of Patagonia is baron grazing land in every direction. The last 3 hours though was cool as we entered the bottom of the Andes range .... mountains, lakes and lots of snow!
8 stamps in our passport and not one of them says "Ushuaia, the southernmost city in the world". We found out after we had left that we could have got that stamped if we had asked the local tourist office!
