"Life is not so much about beginnings and endings as it is about going on and on and on. It is about muddling through the middle." Anna Quindlen

Well, I'm back in the middle again. Today is Thanksgiving, and we arrived home from our trip almost one month ago. It seems that time goes by so quickly -- we arrive home from a trip and are thrown back into the business of life. Is there ever an opportunity to reflect on those experiences, or do we just continue to "muddle" along? Reflecting is not very popular -- something dreamers do. I have been called a dreamer (another Supertramp song that was ascribed to me in high school.) And, it's true. I am a dreamer. This trip and the places we went were part of those dreams.

I wonder what "shimmering images" will remain of this trip in 30 years? I have mentioned some already in this blog, but there are many more:
• Mom playing music that I remember from my childhood on the baby grand piano. I stood behind her and wept as it echoed through the rooms of the 12th century castle
• Tears in my Uncle's eyes on my 30th Wedding Anniversary as he said to me, "You still look 19, well maybe 20"
• David taking apart and fixing the laptop on the train (see photo). Doesn't everyone carry tools for fixing a computer with them on holiday?
• Watching my first nephew, James marry his "soul mate", Karen (First, is used deliberately in this sentence -- I anticipate many, many more.)
• Terri and Ted's pride (relief) at the marriage of their eldest son
• Watching Matthew and Curtis' delight at exploring a "new" (old) world
• Going through the "Fairy Garden" with Chantelle at Blarney Castle -- she could be a fairy herself.
• The magnificence of St. Paul's Cathedral
• The "Dr. Who" boxes in Scotland -- if you don't understand this, I can't help you.
• Aunty Glenys and Uncle Bruce preparing meals at the castle as if they had been there all their lives
• Discovering David's family's roots, and the magical land of Scotland
• Attempting to learn an Irish dance with Brad while watching "The Rose of Tralee" (Morgan) do the same with relative ease.

Was everything perfect? No. The beds (all of them) were too

Could you do this on a plane?
hard (for me); the pillows, with the exception of the Sheraton, were too hard (for me); bathrooms were often not there when needed; it was rarely hot (or even warm); there was lots of waiting (especially at airports); and, David walked all over Ireland, England and Scotland with a 25 lb camera pack and still did not lose weight. Basically, some things never change whether one is on vacation or at home.

So, this journey ends, and more will come, but what this dreamer knows is "just as long as there's two of us, we'll carry on."
