Today was our scheduled booking for The Vatican. We woke up for about 10:30 after a bad night sleep because of lots of beer, wine, carbs and expensive grappa.. Our appointment was for 12:30 so we figured leaving at 11:30 and taking the metro(subway) it would take no time at all. After the 2 km hike to the Metro station we were surprised to find all of the gates closed and locked due to a roaming strike.. We are now faced with daunting taske of trying to find our way to the Vatican across Rome on bus routes that we know nothing about.. The first bus we got on took us to the coliseum which 1/4 of the way there.. we spent the next 20 mins trying to figure out which bus takes us to the Vatican because they only list the stops which are the street names and nothing stood out saying “ Vatican". We (kaitlin) finally asked bus driver and he told us to which one to take.. after the long trip we were dropped off just outside and had to find our way in.. (Because we were going to the Vatican and Sistine chapel there is a dress code so we had to wear long pants below the knees and a shirt that does not show off the shoulders) so needless to say we are dripping sweat as its almost 30 degrees here. We walked through St Peters Square and took a lot of pictures. We finally reached the entrance to the Vatican at 1:30 and proceed to do our tour of the museum and Sistine Chapel . It was a great experience and we both appreciated what we saw but we think the travel took a lot out of us so we didn’t get to relax and enjoy as much as we wanted.. On the way back we stopped for some gelato, and falafel wraps(which were awesome), while trying to find which bus will take us back to the main terminal so that we could walk to the hostel from there..
All in all Rome was a very good place to see and we really enjoyed the hostel, they are wonderful there and have great breakfasts!
Tonight we are having dinner in and just relaxing as we have to be up tomorrow for a 7:30 am train ride through Milano into Switzerland and the quiet and peaceful swiss alps..

btw.. pictures have been added to previous posts thanks to Kenny (our friend from maylasia?)..
