Uneventful trip to Auckland -->LAX. LAX customs is surprisingly inefficient. I assume I'm now in the CIA database. Now what I didn't know is that LAX don't do duty free for incoming passengers - duty free is for departures only. You can still buy stuff at a shop, but they will tax you. Speaking of tax, unsure why the US don't implement something like GST. You have a price, and then there is tax on top of that. I"m not sure why that is.

Very tired. Just went into Downtown LA to look for a supermarket/somewhere to buy fresh food. No luck, but I did walk home from the shops because in Mitch Hedburg's words: "Anywhere is walking distance if you have the time". Now when the hotel lady said it's not walkable, I assumed she meant the distance. Downtown LA is not a nice area. Lots of Dangerous Dave type enterprises, and the three bridal shops I passed looked like something from Big Fat Gypsy Weddings. I was the only white person on the street for most of the way. If you think it's a good idea to walk through this area, don't. It is not a good idea. Take a taxi.
Knott's Berry Farm tomorrow - I've been looking forward to this for about 15 years...

Yeah, I've heard all about downtown LA which is why I never ventured there - I just didn't want to say anything to you prior in case it seemed like I was trying to spoil the party as it were...which I'm definitely not. Go to Hollywood babe, that place will see you right!
