Yummmmm
This is the giant chocolate bar that Hayley and I finally found a few days ago. Naturally, it didn't last long. On Tuesday after class and lunch, we (the API students) went to the Cadiz museum. The poor little old man showing us around had a throat problem and we couldn’t understand a thing he was saying. It was not one of my favorite places to visit so far.
Wednesday morning Hayley and I got up early and met some friends at the Plaza de San Antonio. From there we walked to the train station in New Cadiz to buy bus tickets to the straight of Gibraltar for Saturday morning.
We were exhausted when we got back to the house, but we were pleasantly surprised to find that our first packages had arrived!!! I looked like a kid in a candy store and I don’t think I have ever ripped open a taped up box so quickly. Thanks Mom and Dad for everything you sent! Hayley’s family sent her a card game called Skipbo, which I play all the time back home with my family so I am extremely happy about that. We played a round before heading out to meet our friends (I lost but it was a close game!).

This is a picture of the little American Hamburger place that I mentioned in the last blog front of the Cathedral at a place called Cerveceria Montaditos where they have montaditos (mini sandwiches) for 1 euro every Wednesday. They were really yummy so we are going to try and make Wednesday night regular thing.
After dinner, I finally got to meet “the mysterious man” that we have been hearing throughout the house but have never seen. Milagros and her husband Jesus were explaining to Hayley and I that he is a giant and that he is from Mexico or Seattle or somewhere between. We thought that we might have just not understood their Spanish correctly, but sure enough everything they said is true. His name is Mauricio, but we call him Mo. His is a giant 21- year- old boy, half African American, half Mexican. His parents fluently speak Spanish, so he can speak very well, but he struggles with his writing and grammar. We decided last night that he can help me with my speaking and I can tutor him on his grammar! He is crazy and fun. He was born in OKC, moved to Mexico, then California, and now he lives in Seattle and attends the University of Washington. He is here until December

I was so excited!!! taking classes at the university. Josefa seems to really enjoy him being here. She said he sleeps until five minutes before class starts and stays out until all hours of the night. He is teaching her some English… she seems to only be interested in what we call “palabras feas” or bad words… no need for me to list the specifics, but you can see how it was an entertaining night.
Hayley and I are trying to teach Milagros, Jesus and Josefa to say “beef jerky” because they call it bistukey. When I gave Josefa the Reese’s and beef jerkey yesterday, she went nuts! She was so excited that she jumped and then kissed me on each cheek. Another fun word we taught her was “cranky”. It was fun to explain what it means and hear her say it over and over and be on the other side of things for once (teaching them how to say something).
Today was a long day at school, but only a week and a day before finals! Yikes! After I finished my homework, Hayley and I went to La Playa Santa Maria, which is a beach not too far from our house.
It was very relaxing and a good place for a siesta!
Finally, a special shout out to members of the ‘sac! Mom informed me yesterday that there are pools going up left and right back at home. This is a disgrace and we cannot let those other people think that their pool stands a chance against ours. A plan of action needs to be put into progress right away and I expect to receive a full report at Christmas via the journal I left for you guys to write in. That is all.
Hasta la vista!
Jerica
