We found the heat! Acapulco is as you can imagine; more of a holiday maker resort than a cultural experience. The beach is lined with high-rise hotels and whilst you can envisage why the likes of Elizabeth Taylor would have retreated here in the 60´s, the old parts to Acapulco have become over ruled by the more modern and commercial "new" Acapulco.
We met some cool people and experienced a beach massage from Tony Macoroni Mahoney and his "healing hands" (we didn´t have any choice in the matter, he was so insistent!) but our favourite moments here are of watching the Cliff Divers in the evening. The Divers jump from a maximum of 35 feet into a cove of crashing waves, a misjudge of the currents can cause injury and even loss of life (apparently). Above there are small altars at which they pray before they leap! Nail biting stuff.
