Graveyard
Graveyard where Evita's tomb rests. Alright this is the third time Ive tried to write this baby so bear with me... computers offically suck! Hope everyone at home is enjoying the heat wave! Feels wierd to say, but we cant wait to get home for some warm weather! Though dont feel too bad for us, we canadians would kill for winters like this! Speaking of heat, the other thing i´m missing big time is of course hockey (nice link eh?)...go oilers and it feels like the 80´s again! (that could be cause every song i hear down here is madonna, duran duran or george micheal!
We have been hanging out in the big city of buenos aires for the past week and it has been nice to spend some time in one place for a change... and believe me we could have picked a worse spot than this huge ass city of 14 million... incredible architecture, diverse neighbourhoods, great food ...this place is very unique! So this will basically be a run down of how weve spent the past week, what we ve seenwhat we recommend and maybe an anecdote or two along the way...
we were fortunate to spend the first few days here
with our lovely travelling buddies Jo (or is it british?) Ball and Gabby (good luck with the world tour babs!)...we clubbed it up one night at a bar built to look just like the sydeny opera house, had a couple of great dinners, amanda did some shopping and partook in the may 25th independence day celebrations! All in all two of the best people we met on this trip..wonderful people and funny as hell... they also taught us that though we are here trying to learn spanish that there is a whole lot of english we dont know yet! Let me demonstrate... The restaurants food was bollocks! Saying goodbye was absolute rubbish! Im just shattered today as the bar last night was shocking! I felt like austin powers and his dad in Goldmember....¨and then he shat on a turtle!¨
the gals left us (good luck, see ya in canada!)and we were on our own... the next few days were spent exploring... each day amanda and i would get up and walk all over the city.. she is such a trooper as she has wicked blsiters on her feet... we explored the markets of san telmo and recoleta, visited evitas grave
and her museum, saw the famed la boca port and football stadium, visited the botanical gardens, did some souvenir shopping and saw the buenos aires zoo... so much to see...
every morning began with a long walk (well for me anyways!)...we got our own lil taste of home and of my childhood for that matter as in our hotel we were able to watch Beverly Hills 90210, Melrose Place and dawsons creek every day...insert geek joke here (still cant believe joey picked pacey)...oh and that seinfeld episode where he gets addicted to melrose..so true!
So anyways... to sum up all of these experiences... the zoo was incredible... saw all kinds of animals...lions and tigers and bears... before you say oh my, save it for the real impressive stuff... we saw our first inbred llama..his underbite was the stuff of legends..we named him cletus and felt he would have been at home in lanark county for sure... and the main event... the giant hippo...as we were taking a pic of this humongous hippo in the water, his tail began flapping against the wall uncontrollably...we realized then of course that there was an explosive brown liquid flying everywhere from his
rear end! OH MY!
La Boca...overrated, but that comes with an asterick as one thing we missed on this trip was the opportunity to see a soccer match... i did get to watch the exhibiton match between argentina and angola...wow holy one sided batman! Argentina does look good have to admit!
Couple other things...having walked so much i realize one thing... they have no sidewalk manners here... they all think they own the sidewalk... god do´t they know anything? I OWN THE SIDEWALK! Geez...
Evitas grave? Worth seeing for sure...never ever seen a graveyard as elaborate as this one and not just for her...for everyone in it... wow... the museum... a lil disappointing to be honest...not nearly thorough enough..we do a better job promoting our history (no bias there from a history teacher!) they are certainly patriotic though! Man i have never seen so many blue and white streamers (til next june when the leafs win the cup!)
Anyways all in all we have enjoyed the city...relatively inexpensive...great food, good shopping and lots to see and do...
til next time, all the best
Jeff and amanda

CAPIVARA!!
Those are Capivara (the rabbit/dogs) .... the largest rodent in the world... common in South America.... in Curitiba, Brazil they swim around in the ponds and have been known to eat a small child! Sounds like you had a fun time in Bs As.
