After a blackout at Sydney Airport causing the delay of my first flight, missing of my connecting flight and subsequent loss of my bags for the next two days, it was a rough start to my first experience of travelling alone. The Hostel I was staying at was great. Within the first few hours I was already making travel plans with Marok, a Slovakian guy over here for work training, and later on Kong, a Chinese student studying in America, and Rhett, a photographer and club promoter from Miami.

The four of us travelled three hours south of Miami to Key West, the United States’ most southerly point, a touristy place where we spent the day paddle boarding and sight seeing. We crossed the seven-mile bridge (featured in CSI Miami = awesome), checked out Earnest Hemmingway’s house and saw some really cool houses (its where all the celebrities have places). While it was a massive trek to get there and back in one day, it was great to get to know more about the guys I would hang out with for the next few days.

The next few nights pretty much killed me (in a good way). Rhett took Lawrence, a girl from Montreal (who we hung out with for next couple of days) and me out to three amazing clubs in Miami; Louis, Mansion and Set. All three nights Rhett’s mate Julian hooked us up with unlimited free drinks at his exclusive table. The most notable night for me was mansion, it’s the biggest club I’ve ever seen, there were about a thousand people there, and at the table next to us was little bow wow (not really my favourite artist, but still pretty cool). I didn’t really get what this guy Julian did, but on the first night he arrived at the club in a party bus with about 45 absolutely stunning women and two of his mates – what ever he’s doing, I want to do it.

Prior to my last night, I went to the everglades; a swamp-like national park with lots of alligators that you explore on a large fan powered boat. It was something I’m glad I did, but it was over-priced and the alligators has mostly left due to the recent droughts in Florida. If you were short on time or money, I recommend spending your time on South Beach.

I caught the train out of there at 8am, straight from ‘Set’ the previous night. Off to Charleston, South Carolina, where I might get some sleep.
