So I left Italy for my big six week adventure through Europe. I started this excursion with a few relaxing days on the French Riviera. This was also my first couchsurfing experience (www.couchsurfing.com).
Hey everybody let me start by commenting on how
difficult it is to type on a French keyboard!

Anyways, Nice was beautiful, after surviving the train ride over which left Florence at midnight and arrived in Nice at 9:45... glad Im finally out of italy, within the last 4 hrs there, 2 italian men tried to kiss me, wait lets make that 3, i forgot to include my italian brother, aaaah! I need a break from Italy big time! i did a lot of relaxing in Nice... two days of beach... met up with a french boy i met during the last trip to france who works for the french train company so ive been getting discounts on my trips! he hung out with me for the past few afternoons. while roaming around Nice by myself, i met a 65 yr old artist who showed me her work in a gallery and three Irish women one of whom was deemed a Dame (is this right?) by the British queen for winning a gold medal in the olympics (forget what this event is called something having to do with running) back in the 60s or 70s. Her name is Mary... thats all i remember, but supposedly my parents would
remember her winning... I guess she is really famous???)

My first couchsurfing experience was amazing, i stayed with a man named Gilles, who works for the French postal service but in his spare time he is a magician. He is kind of nerdy but a lot of fun and very sweet. He showed me all sorts of tricks, translated French jokes for me, and fed me gourmet cooking on paper plates! We had a lot of fun together. However he lived in a suburb outside of Nice which was beautiful but I have to admit for difficult to get to for a non-French
speaker!

During the last night in Nice the French friend and I went to St. Jean Cap-Ferrat (dont know if i spelled that right), its a peninsula with gorgeous pine forests. I had escargots, something i plan to have many more times before i part with this country!

After we returned back to St. Andres and headed to Cannes the next morning.

beautiful
The beach looks great. The guy on the couch does too. I'm glad this was a positive first couch surf experience--the whole concept makes a mom shudder. The beach looks sandy--I thought that I remembered pebbly beaches on the riviera?
