Well, I've been settled in Melbourne for about 1 1/2 months...time flies! The second I stepped foot into the city, I fell in love. It has so much going on all the time...festivals, (a great comedy festival just finished and now an international movie fest has started), an excellent cafe scene, great live music, delicious food from all around the world...I could go on forever. It reminds me of a few different cities. 1) San Fran because it has cable car/trams running throughout the city. 2) New Orleans because of the amazing ironwork on the buildings. 3) Europe because of all the tiny alleyways that are crammed with stores and cafes.
I am living in an ex-convent called The Nunnery (don't worry, I have not converted). It’s a super cute backpacker with beautiful wood floors, stained-glass windows, and lots of long-term stayers, like myself, so it has a very homey, friendly feel. I am cleaning the kitchen for free accommodation (2 hrs a day) and working as a waitress in a restaurant to make some money for the rest of my travels. I am really glad I decided to settle for a few months and not rush my travels. It’s really
comforting to have a stable, cosy place to live with lots of familiar faces and new friends as well as a routine (which believe it or not I actually missed in New Zealand).
