Salta!

Beautiful Salta ... tucked up in the northwest corner of Argentina. It still seems weird to think of heading northwest to get to a warmer climate but as are things here in the southern hemisphere. Half of the time we were in Salta we used the city as a base city to make beautiful day trips to Cachi and Cafayate ... but we also were able to enjoy walking around the city and having some good food. Salta is one of the most beautiful cities in Argentina ... so the guide books say and we do not dissagree with them! On Sunday we went to a market and also ran into a gaucho parade ... which was in honor of the "virgin of the gaucho." That celebration was awesome because we got to see literally hundreds of gauchos parading aound the streets on horse back! One things that we wanted to see was one real gaucho while in Argentina ... well we got to see over 500 of them!

Another highlight was certainly going out for pizza ... because of Argentina's Italian influence they are known as one of the best pasta and pizza makers in the world. We went to a pizza place right off of "la plaza 9 de julio" and it was awesome!

On Wednesday we also got to walk around the city and see some cool things ... we went to the towns market and got to see all of the different meat, cheese, fruits, vegetable and everything else that you can buy there ... we even chatted with a few locals asking what kinds of food they are buying and what they plan to make with it. After that we were able to do a little shopping and enjoy some relaxing time in the parks and in a plaza as we watched the saltenos in action! Sadly, we were not able to be in Salta Wednseday night because as we were leaving for our night bus we noticed that they were setting up a big screen to watch the Argentine national team play a BIG game vs Colombia in the Copa America!
