Hey All!

Well since my last entry we certainly have seen and done a LOT!

We arrived back to Bangkok yesterday evening from a 2 night trip to a region called Kanchanaburi about 3 hours outside of Bangkok. Day 1 on the schedule was pretty hectic but some of the highlights were unforgettable! We went to the floating market (in a nutshell it was like a market except on a river!) People were bartaring and purchasing fresh fruit, vegetables and souvenirs all from the river bank and on boats! Very different and interesting to watch. We also got to have the experience of getting a 20minute journey on a 'long tail' boat down the river to the market which was pretty special. Next on the stop was the Bridge over the river Kwai!!!! I have to say this was one of my favourites purely because of the historical nature of the sight. Beside the bridge there is also a small museum giving people the chance to learn some of the histories about the POWs who were forced to build the bridge and the Burma-Thai rail road. We walked down to the bridge and walked across it. The steel part of the bridge is all that remains today as the wooden part was destroyed by bombing.

After a quick pit-stop for lunch we then travelled to the Tiger Temple!!! It was nothing I have ever seen before. Basically like a safari park that is run by Buddhist Monks. I got to see and touch Tigers, although chained they didn't seem to be mistreated which was comforting. It's a pretty impressive thing to say that I was able to be that close to Tigers, some of the pictures taken are amazing. The final stop on our exhausting first day was to Sai Yok waterfall, we couldnt really fully appreciate this because a huge downopur of rain started and we got drenched. Our accommodation was called Kitti Rafts- basically they were like wooden 'huts' floating on the river. Although we mananged to get a bungalow room beside the rafts instead.

Day two was lovely as well we went to Erawan national park were we got to hike to a 7 level waterfall! I have to say it was spectacular, some of the bluest waters I have ever seen. We just about managed to get to level four as the heat was unreal. We got to go swimming as well at waterfall two!! It was pretty surreal to be able to swim in a waterfall with wild Monkeys overhead ha!

After the national Park we went to the Hellfire Pass memorial and museum (Dad and Dan you would appreciate this). It commemorated the 100,000 POWs who were forced to build a part of the burm-thai railroad through this particular mountainous stretch of land. Pretty graphic pictures and information but it gave a very good account of what happened. We managed to climb a good few hundred steps down to the Hellfire Pass as well.

Our final day was pretty relaxed, we got to go Elephant Trekking in the morning (which was fantastic)! and then we got to rafting (not white water may I add ha) Basically we were on a bamboo raft that floated down the river for a very leisurely hour. However, it must of been about 40 degress yesterday!

We are now spending our last day and night in our luxury hotel in Bangkok. Tomorrow we are going on the stray tour that will bring us through northern Thailand and into Laos.

So until the next entry, I hope everyone is well and I will keep you posted.
