Hey everyone, I know it's been a while but it's hard to make myself go use the internet. I have just had the best 12 days ever! I love it here so much. I have now finished my Open Water certification and my Advanced Open Water, and even did a Nitrox certification too. I love diving so much. I just got back from a deep dive to 30m, it was beautiful!! So my life has been party all night, dive all day for the last little while. If I'm not diving, I go for a big snorkel or relax on the dock. The courses are so relaxed and informal, but the instructors are still professional. It's cool because you can just sit out in the sun and listen to music while you're doing the theory. And you always hang out with your instructors at night time, I've had three different instructors at Alton's and they're all great.
Everyone goes to the bar at night, after BBQ usually. Tranquila Bar is the place to go usually and there is lots of dancing to be done. I love being out on the boat for diving too, cruising around the island. Today between dives we had to take an hour and a half surface interval because of the deep dive, so we went over to one of the little cayes for a snack. It's just a tiny fishing island but there a few little places to eat. The dive boats at Alton's are great because they all have really good stereo systems, so we just play loud music and dive. Last night we went for a 'booze cruise' around the bay at sunset, we had 28 people on the boat all having a sunset beer. It was fun, even the owner of Alton's and his wife and daugther came along. I usually eat a few baleadas everyday because they're only 50 cents each. They're yummy thick tortillas with beans, onions, and cheese inside. Or you can get veggies, meat, or egg. They're so good. If I'm not diving early, I usually go do yoga and then make banana pancakes. Life is so good here. When you're at the bar there is sometimes huge lightening storms out over the water, it's so cool. There is a party evernight, lots of BBQ parties, and dock parties. I even ate some hog at a big hog fry we had the other night...me!! hog?!
There is so much to tell about this place but I want to go get lunch and head back to the dock. Maybe a little more...I am seriously considering staying here and completing my dive masters but it would take a while and a lot of money, so it's a big commitment. I don't see any reason to leave somewhere like this. It is truly paradise. No stress, no worries, it's all good all the time. The three lies of Utila are 1. I'm leaving tomorrow, 2. I'm not drinking today, and 3. I love you. And they are so true. I was only going to stay 4 days and all of a sudden it's been almost 2 weeks.
I've made some really good friends here too. I might be able to go to Belize on wednesday straight from here on a big cargo ship. I have to go talk to the captain tomorrow because he wasn't there yesterday, but I hope it works out because it would be so much easier than having to go to Guatemala and then catch a boat to Belize, and go though the border and transfer so many buses. I'm going to cross my fingers that they let me come along. Okay, gotta go back to Alton's now!!
