Today ... Sunday the 26th of July ... we enjoyed one of the greatest gastronomic events of our lives! A true argentine "asado." We are extremely lucky to have been able to have this opportunity because we are staying with an Argentine family and they invited us to be a part of their asado. In the morning, before the asado we went for a walk to the city center of Villa de Las Rosas ... the city where we are staying. This helped us wake up and get ready for the asado. Upon returning to our house the asado process was about ready to start. Our host dad got a fire going to the side of the grill. The coals from the fire is what he would use to put under the grill for the asado ... old school charcoal. After that he started putting the meat on the grill ... of which there was PLENTY! The main event is of course the steak but also he put some argentine chorizo (brat), chinchulin (intestine) and morsilla (blood sausage). The whole process is intended to be a family event. Everybody is outside by the grill chatting as the meat slowly cooks to perfection. It was cool because there were about 12 people here as family came from out of town to enjoy the asado ... as is what many Argentine families do on Sundays. As we waited for the meat to be cooked there was also some appetizers and of course a little red wine to compliment the meat. In total the meat cooking process took about 3 hours but it was worth every second!

Once the meat was prepared everyone sat down to eat. As it was winter we sat inside but a summer asado would be outside. We started with a lettuce salad and potato salad. This would be followed by round 1 of the meat which was chorizo, chinchulin and morsilla. Then, of course came the main event, EL BIFE .. the steak. It was SO good! The true charcoal added to the great taste ... complimented by the great grilling and the great quality of meat. Argentines say that their meat is so good here because their meat is from free range cows that are not corn fed but rather roam the pampas eating the rich pampa grass. It was simply fenominal.

Then followed the dessert .. another impressive treat! An apple pie and a chocolate cake ... we had to have a little of both ... or in Andy´s case a lot of both. It felt like Thanksgiving because after the meal we watched a very important soccer game ... and the family was in competition as some were cheering for River Plate (one of the big teams in Buenos Aires) and Belgrano (team from Cordoba). It was a huge game because River Plate needed to win to keep from becoming delegated to the second divison. It was an event 100% argentino!
