ello everybody! (none of that cheesey 'blogger buddies' crap when i'm in charge, haha!) it's grace writing this one, as you can probably tell due to the improvement in style, spelling, grammar etc. i haven't written many of these actually....mainly because i'm too lazy, but as this is going to be the last blog entry while i'm around, i thought it would be appropriate. so yes, tomorrow evening i'll be back in the cultural hub that is Ely, craziness! It's weird because even though this destination is the closest we've been to home since we left england, it definitely feels like we're the furthest from home we've ever been. Anyhow, enough of this, let's bring you up to date on our adventures! On the night of the 19th we arrived at Delhi airport, and everything since then has been a blur of rickshaws, cows, saris and staring Indian people. we were really shocked at how interesting everyone found us at first, thinking that locals in Delhi would be used to tourists, but throughout our first day we were constantly being followed, stared at and asked to be in photos with random people's children. this has all got pretty tedious now that
the novelty's worn off...although we did milk it at times (e.g. chris producing his guitar on Delhi train station, biggest audiance we've ever had!). Moved on to Agra where we had a brilliant but very busy day as we got a day tour with one of the rickshaw drivers who took us to see everything. unfortunately i think the heat and exhaustion got to me by the end of the day and i got pretty ill just as we reached the Taj! (sick twice in the Taj Mahal gardens! quite a claim i reckon...) couldnt even manage to walk up to it, but was impressive all the same plus the view we got from our hotel roof made up for that. We had an interesting train journey on to Jaipur, especially with me still not feeling great, as it was 5 hours late, and we then found ourselves on a packed carriage with lots of curious indians wanting to talk. mostly to chris though luckily, he practically had a hot seat next to him where people took it in turns to sit and ask him the same questions for 7 hours...poor bloke! Then in jaipur it was chris' turn to
be ill!! what fun. he was up most of the night and consequently the following day was pretty uneventful. Caught an overnight train to our main destination, jaisalmer, on which we met a lovely aussie couple who we spent all our time there with. Jaisalmer was a lovely contrast to the busy cities we'd been through, everyone so friendly and the streets nice and calm (in comparison). was a beautiful city as well, like a huge sandcastle in the middle of the desert, it's focal point being a large fort which is the only one to be inhabited and is full of shops, restuarants, hotels etc. spent two days we were there on a camel safari with jeff and siovhan (our aussie friends) which took us out into the rajasthan desert for a night in the sand dunes under the stars. such an amazing experience, despite the heat, hot drinking water and waking up buried alive in sand...good times. spent our last few nights in jaisalmer at one of the best hotels we've stayed in yet, as it was run by a really nice guy who kept us supplied with cold beers and was always keen to chat about Indian
culture and ideas etc, was sad to leave in the end, had made quite a little home there! Anyways, back we are in Delhi, hearing the familiar noise of several rickshaw and moped horns as they scoot past. Lovely. My god, now i see why i never write these blogs, it would take months! sorry for the ramblings but hope at least half of it has been interesting 😊 can't believe my round the world adventure has come to an end...can't believe i have to go back to the real world!! but, as one adventure ends another is beginning, and i'm sure chris will keep us all entertained with his tales of befriending the Dalai Lama and changing the course of Tibetan history. As for most of you, I'll see you all very soon! Will be in touch with friends to arrange mass party/going out-ness, hopefully most of you are back from uni? if not then you better come back before the week ends i need all the ears i can get to bore with my stories (i plan to become one of those irritating peole who slips 'this one time at the grand canyon/skydiving in New Zealand/camel trekking through
the desert in India' into anything anyone says to me, no matter how relevant, haha!
right, that better be all from me, think i've spent the little remaining money i did have on this internet session.
So it's goodbye from me (bye bye!) and it's goodbye from him (until next time) well done for reading this far, and look forward to seeing you all soon back in ye olde England! Wooo!
All our love
Grace and Chris
