a bad case of bus-lag...

whew. we just checked into our hostel after a day of being on the bus. why does sitting on your butt wear you out so bad? we have papers due tomorrow so thats what i ought to be doing but i can't get motivated. i got in trouble last time for writing on the back of my paper (i blame that on you mom for making me environmentally aware) and i tried explaining to the professor that it was a contradiction to be taking a class titled 'sustaining human society in a natural environment' and be unnecessarily wasting so much paper. he wasn't amused.
So...today we stopped on the coast and took a walk out to the ocean where there are these amazing rock outcroppings called "pancake rocks" because of the way they form in these flat, layered stacks. They were all over the place and the waves were crashing against them..wow. The pictures I'm taking just don't do these places justice. To be surrounded by these rocks, and hear the waves crashing, with the wind blowing, and not a city light in sight adds so much that a picture just can't describe.
We also went to Nelson lakes and did a little hiking around the area. Everything was so wet and green! Birds are everywhere, but I have yet to see a Kiwi (NZ's famous mascot) so that's my goal before I leave. They are crazy looking guys with long skinny beaks and are as big as chickens but are pretty rare these days and highly protected. Tomorrow we go to Abel Tasman to sea kayak! I'm nervous because the guys keep threatening to flip us if we get stuck in their kayak and the sea is going to be freeeezing. yikes!
Thank you guys so much for leaving comments. I get excited when I see I have new ones! I miss ya'll (boy do I get made fun of for that one here) and can't believe my trip is halfway over. Wish me luck on my sea venture tomorrow......

Just a note,,,,
I want to let you know that you're missed, too. It's too quiet here! Flo and I are getting along good - she especially likes my lap, but stays out-side at night mostly. I crank your car and let it run awhile each week so the battery won't go dead, and I'm keeping your flowers watered. Take care of yourself and good luck kayaking!

my little conservetionist!
Hey Jessie - I'm glad you are conserving paper, no matter what any ole professor might say! Keep up the good work and maybe they'll notice your writing instead of your so-called "screw up"! I can't get over the amazing scenery and variety. It is too bad that you didn't sign up for the whole semester trip, huh? But we do miss you, too, and will be glad to see you in about two weeks! Hope no stupid guys flipped your kayak - Mom
