waiting for us to board
So finally we boarded a flight to head for the beach. The destination was Krabi on a beach near Ao Nang. But it wasn't exactly Ao Nang since we had our own private strip surrounded by rocks - the resort is only reached by boat (boat ride is less than 10 minutes). We agreed that it was definitely one of the most luxurious and beautiful hotels that we had experienced. We were lucky to stay at this place as we get a special rate - the resort has recently opened and a portion of it was still under construction (part of the reason we got a good deal). But we also concluded that the hotel reservation desk gave us our package mistakenly. The nightly hotel rate included buffet breakfast and lunch - not just a sandwich but a 3 course meal. We only partook in the lunch one of the four days since the buffet was ample enough for the day; imagine that, a free 3-course lunch that we passed on. We also were entitled to a free massage, every day. Six free massages for each of the four days. And we certainly did not skip any of those. Mike gets

all the credit for the whole set-up at this hotel. The hotel staff were so confused by the deal we had (Mike brought the e-mail confirmation) that they copied the e-mail confirmation that we brought and distributed among all the hotel staff. Needless to say, this was a wonderful four days on a beautiful beach surrounded by the limestone mountains coming out of the sea bottom.

So for the four days, that's what we did...breakfast, pool, massage, lunch (once) and then dinner. A couple of nights we took the boat to Ao Nang to get some dinner in town (for a change of scenery. The town is a typical beach town with your beach and tourist shops - not that much to see. I spent half of two of the days rock climbing in Rai Leh beach (which is nearby); climbing was great since the routes are on the beach overlooking the water, great scenery.

At the end of the four days, I wanted to stay for more beach time but we had travel plans. We headed back to Bangkok and stayed at the Sheraton (one last night of comfort accommodation) and spent the next day with the

family before their flights.

Moving on to our usual shabby guesthouse room, we coordinated our visa and flight for Myanmar and had four additional nights in Bangkok before we headed to the unknown of Myanmar. We had initially not planned to visit Myanmar (Burma), however, several of our friends (that we have met along the way) strongly recommended a visit. And since the monsoon season started in late May, we booked our ticket to head to Myanmar on April 27.
