Woke up at about 6am and after Ali had taken Sam to school, and some breakfast, we had a walk around the place she lives- Bay View. It is a lovely area (unsurprisingly with a bay view) with loads of absolutely beautiful houses. No two seem to be the same, but all look really funky with a splash of colour here and there. Really really nice and many that I wouldn't mind living in myself. (we can dream) We walked by the lock, by the mangroves and saw some lovely colourful birds flying about which I later found out were bee eaters.
We made our way into town and to the Darwin museum. It was really quite interesting, with loads of different sections on things in and about Darwin. I quite liked all the wildlife exhibits showing all the snakes and crawlies that are found around these parts, as well as beautiful birds and butterflies. As long as I only view them through a glass case, and not in person we should get along just fine.
I saw 'Sweetheart' a massive saltwater croc (yep it was huge) who had died back in the 70s and donated to the museum. There was
some interesting aboriginal art, and a good section on Cyclone Tracey that devastated Darwin on the Christmas eve of 1974. We went in a room that played an actual recording of the cyclone as it happened, and bloody hell- loud isn't the word. Ali had encountered her first cyclone over here in February, but by the sound of things- is something the terratorians get used to during the wet season ( no thanks).
We went onto a lovely little place called Cullen Bay Marina for some lunch, and I can't say enough just how much I am loving sitting out in this sun! It's so nice and chilled out, and a different life to back in the UK. We drove around some more with ali showing me various points around Darwin, the sea views are lovely, and although a really small place, nevertheless a lovely one in which to live.
We went into the town centre with a view to doing a bus tour, but after waiting a while and then asking at the information centre, we found it had been cancelled. We picked up some info leaflets about Uluru and Alice Springs and had a wander around and coffee.
We went to the rugby shop where a friend of Chris' works. I'm delighted to say, there I met my first Aussie by the name of Bruce (it had to be done)
Sam was at rugby training tonight, so before picking him up we went to Dripstone cliffs where lots of people BBQ at weekends. It was great walking along the cliff tops by the sea, and although the tide was coming in, we had a little walk down on Casuarina beach, and collected some shells.
We picked Sam up and went back home for tea. Now, i don't know whats going on with my skin, but its a bit spotty to say the least. Luckily, Sam has some super duper spot treatment stuff, and after showing me the routine of cleanse tone and moisturising, I hope to have the complexion of Justin Bieber by the time I come home ( apparently he uses the same stuff) how bad do I feel- nicking acne cream off a 14 year old boy....
Anyway, Today had really wiped me out and I tried to stay awake through the DVD we were watching, but as usual, I fell asleep about 10
minutes into the film. I had to admit defeat and go to bed at 2130- a pathetic effort on my part. What can I say? It must be the Darwin heat.
