Museums and Phantoms

I'm afraid these are getting too long, which I thought I could avoid, and that you're able to see all the pictures that you want to see with this format. You have to scroll down, and on some go to "next," to see them all. I'm having so much fun and cannot possibly capture in pictures the beauty and insanity that is New York, but I'm trying!

I have totally lost my voice so it's good that I'm alone I guess! Except for yesterday when Shelley had to struggle to hear me! Emily is in finals so everyone say a little prayer for her! And then she is coming to visit me on Thursday after her last one! I'm very excited!

Today, another beautiful day weather wise, I started with a Holy Eucharist at St. Bartholomew's on Park Ave. and 51st. I realized yesterday that I am running out of Sundays and still have a couple of churches that I really want to experience worship at, so I'm going to take in some weekday services. Of course it would have made more sense during Holy Week but oh well...The service at St. Bart's was very good, another open communion and great little Homily. The priest said he could discern my Southern accent even without a voice.

So...after church I decided to go to the Museum of Modern Art, to which I'd never been. As most of you know I am not an art museum person, (as mother would say!) or any museum really, for that matter, and nothing has changed. I'm sorry, Shelly, but I just don't get it. I walked around for an hour or so, decided that I really like Picasso's works with cut wallpaper, newspaper, charcoal, ink, and pencil on canvas, and then began to feel claustrophobic and got a headache. So I left! I did walk through all six floors. Probably at a record pace. Tomorrow I'll go to the Holocaust Museum and stay for hours, but art just doesn't do it for me. Give me tragedy any day...at least I tried, right?

To recover from the museum, I went to a movie. Source Code. And just watching Jake Gyllenhaal for a couple or hours did the trick. Then I swung by the TKTS booth around 7 and got a ticket for "The Phantom of the Opera." I hadn't seen it since we brought the kids to NY in 2000, and I absolutely fell in love with it all over again. That is the epitome of a Broadway play.

I had my first celebrity sighting. I walked up as John Lithgow was getting out of a cab. He just walked right in front of me! OK so it wasn't Jake Gyllenhaal, but it was somebody! Also I wanted to say that I've been enjoying singing the Holy, Holy, Holy Lord at a brisker pace. Some of you will know to what I refer!

Love your comments and emails! Keep them coming please!!

I am laughing about the museums...I kind of feel the same way?!?! I try appreciate them sometimes, usually can't find it in me, and then need to get outside, ha ha. I hope you made it to all the church services you wanted to! Next time I'm in NYC I want to go see these beautiful churches so you'll have to recommend your favorites.
