Around the corner from where I live!
Thursday was another near perfect day. While running a few errands in the morning, I discovered that President Obama was coming to the fire station that I walk by almost every day, to meet with firefighters on his way to Ground Zero. So if you see pictures on television or read the NY Times, the fire station to which they refer, is just around the corner from where I live. I took a couple of pictures but didn't stick around as they were blocking off the streets for the visit.

It was a beautiful day, so I headed out to Citi Park to watch the Mets play the Giants at 1:10. I took the subway to Flushing, getting a daytime tour of Queens this time, as once you leave the city, the subway becomes an "el" as in Chicago. When I bought my ticket, the ticket seller diplomatically said if I had a senior with me I could get in for half price. Haha! So I got a $100 seat for $50, thirteen rows back between home and first, and a free Mets T-shirt from Chevrolet. I sat by a tax attorney from Montana and had fun conversation throughout the game which was really exciting, full of good hits, home runs, and two bats being thrown into the stands! Something I had never seen. The Mets won 5-3 so the crowd was happy, which is always a good thing. It was a little chilly and really windy, but the sun was shining and it turned into a great way to spend an afternoon.

I came back to the city, picked up my scripts at my neighborhood Times Square Walgreen's, and went to TKTS to get a second row seat for "Chicago," with Christie Brinkley. First time I wish I'd saved my money. As gorgeous as she is especially at 57, she just can't sing, dance, or act. I really only went to see her, because I didn't particularly like the movie, and was really sorry I didn't use the time to see something else. It was only the second play I've been to, out of 17 plays, where there was no standing ovation. But I bet it's selling well just because of her. Smart move.

A couple of random things...four of the movies I saw at Tribeca won awards. She Monkeys: World Narrative Competition; Semper Fi, Always Faithful: Best Editing In a Documentary Feature; Give Up Tomorrow: Best New Documentary, Special Jury Mention, and Heineken Audience Award; Donor Unknown: Online Film Festival Best Feature Film.

And...there are musicians that play on the subways for money, that are actually sanctioned by the city, and they are really talented. It's amazing how much talent is in this city, even on the subways!
