Ground Zero - Take Two

I just want to add a few thoughts. Being at Ground Zero this morning with so many other Americans and those from other countries as well, was an amazing experience...no doubt about it. I've never celebrated anyone's death and am basically a pacifist, as most of you know, so my thoughts were not so much about bin Laden as about so many other things. I was thinking about Alyson, first of all, and Sara, about my own kids and how thankful I am for all that I have. I was thinking about my country, of which I still am so proud, in spite of all of its flaws. I was thinking of all the innocent people who have died instead of bin Laden, and that if anyone had to die, it should have been him.

Watching so many New Yorkers, and thinking of all of the other families throughout the country, who have suffered so much more than I, thinking of all they have been through, and that they found a reason and the will to celebrate anything at that particular spot...well, I felt honored to be there.

Jeanne, I have been thinking so much about you all day. I also am a pacifist and did not "celebrate" bin Laden's death as much as felt a stirring of passsage, we are as a people moving on. There is so much fighting and righteousness in our world and so much suffering that is created as a result. I think this just reminds me to watch my own righteousness, least it lead to suffering in the world. I have commpassion for all in the world who have suffered in war and death. You are a wonderful person, Jeanne, I know you halped many with your caring ways. Just wanted to tell you I love you today. Gay.
