Welcome to the journal of Historian Herb and his traveling adventures. I am here in San Antonio (the home of the Alamo) preparing for my adventure. Gathering the items, clothes, and bags needed to travel to far off places. Two weeks from today I am going to embark on the biggest travel experience so far in my life. I am going to travel to Israel, Egypt, and Jordan from June 3rd to July 4th. I have been preparing for this trip since December 05 and my family, students, and coworkers are starting to get tired of me talking about my trip. The interesting thing so far is telling people where I am going this summer. I get mixed reaction such as, "I have always wanted to go there", "Are you going to wear a bulletproof vest", "Don't go there, you will be blown up", "That is an amazing place" and "Why would you want to go there".

Let look into why I would want to visit these three countries. The first thing most people think I am going for is religious reasons. Although I am Jewish and feel a connection to Israel, I am not a religious person. The reason I am venturing to far away places is because so much historical history is located there. Who would not want to see the Giza Pyramids, the Rose Red city of Petra, and the simple beauty of the desert. The second reason would have to be the overall mystery of the Middle East. It’s a place where we usually only hear bad news coming from the American media and because it is a place that has a culture almost as old as history itself. The last reason would be to meet people who lead a different life than me, see how they live, and ask the average person about the land they live in.

Here is my itinerary-

June 3rd - Fly to Tel Aviv, Israel
June 4th - June 15th - Travel through Israel
June 15th - June 29th - Travel through Egypt
June 30th - July 3rd - Travel through Jordan and return to Tel Aviv
July 4th - Fly back Home

Come back June 4th to follow me along in my adventures
