Excited to get to a new country we finally arrived in Vientiane the capital of Laos. We didn't have any accommodation booked so we walked the streets with our backpacks on searching for a guest-house to spend the night. We found a reasonably cheap place called Haysoke which cost 130,000kip (£10) a night, it had A/C, hot water and WIFI, all the basic stuff we needed. We set out to explore the capital. We found it quite quiet for a capital city, not much going on but really clean and great architecture with beautiful temples. It was so much cheaper than Thailand for accommodation, Food, everything! The beer in Laos is really good and cheaper than chips just 10'000kip (70p) for a pint bottle.

On our second day we hired a moped and went to explore the temples. We went to 'Pat Uxai', Vientiane's Arc De Triumph replica, it was very grand set in lovely gardens with a big fountain that was unfortunately being cleaned at the time. We then went to the main city temple called 'Pha that Luang', beautiful golden temple and the most important monument in Laos it is even on all the bank notes, we walked around the grounds and museum for as little as 50p.

As there is not much to do here we only stayed for two nights and decided to go to VangVieng which we believe to be a lot more lively.
