book shop in BA that is in an old theatre - groovy!
We have made it back to BA and had a very harrowing driving in a taxi from the port! So much so that we've had to come straight to our bar for happy "hour"!!

Uruguay was good although it poured down last night! Our two hostels were fine, although the second one needed a bit of a clean! Still, we only had one night at each and they were central, staff were friendly and the roof terrace was good (and we had free wi fi without having to go to a bar!!!)

Everyone over there drinks Matte. I tried it after class on Thursday - its like green tea but they make it in a special cup with a straw/spoon. People walk round the streets with a thermos of hot water and their cup to top it up (even in the supermarket!)

Elsa approves of my poncho purchase and I wore it out for supper last night.

We're now back on our £10 a day budget having blown a bit on the weekend - having eaten out twice we've realised how lucky we are to have Elsa's suppers each night! We even ordered second round of drinks last night and stayed on and played cards in restaurant!

Have also tried fernet which is a type of amaro, a bitter, aromatic spirit. Fernet is made from a number of herbs and spices. You drink it with coke and I think I could acquire a taste for it........

We're going to try the laundry opposite tomorrow - Elsa has assured us its quite easy - you just handover your clothes and get a ticket and then go back for them sometime!!!

School starts at 8am tomorrow as lessons are cancelled Good Friday so we have to make up the 4 hours by starting an hour early Mon- Thurs - that means getting up at 6am!!!!

Plans for this week include trying to get tickets for River Plate (BA team) v Independientes on Sunday (G has an aim of watching a footie game in every country we visit! (the City game on a tv didnt count!!!)

poncho
it was actually quite expensive (£40) but G convinced me it was worth it - just hope we don't have to cut the trip short by a week because of my early indulgence!! The green tea stuff was ok, bit of an acquired taste though so need to try it again!

Oooooh that is quite expensive. Be careful or you'll be eating 2 minute noodles for the rest of your trip! ;)

hey wenny, looks like you were the only two people in Uruguay! A colleague of mine drinks matte - looks like a lot of effort for what could quite easily be achieved with a PG Tips or a trip to Starbucks...! kathy xx

Mate
Very intrigued by the drink you called matte. Eventually tracked it down using Wiki and it's actually called 'mate' and it seems to be drunk all over south America. The container is supposed to be a gourd and the straw should be made of silver. Can't help thinking they should have invented tea bags instead!!!
