Iguazu Falls
One of what we estimate to be around 300 waterfalls on the Argentina side. Hola amigos....
Just another average week of travelling... you know 20 hour bus rides... viewing one of the 7 natural wonders of the world... watched a huge soccer (er i mean football ) match with tons of ravaged soccer (er I mean football! this gonna take some geting used to!) fans on a big screen and then proceeded to the birthplace of one of the most prominent and rebellious figures of the 20th century...ho hum ...so bored!
Our adventure continues picking up in buenos aires where we decided to break down and pay for a plane ticket north to Puerto Igazu...which is tucked along two rivers and bordered by paraguay in the west and brazil in the north east... a very happening place as it is one of the top tourist destinations in south america...
thanks to our old travelling buddy juanita (hope youre loving brazil!), we got hooked up in the best hostel we have stayed at yet, the hostel inn ...this place actually was warm and we took advantage by using their poolside and soaking up the sun at every opportunity... they also had free internet ( so i was able to keep up with the
oilers amazing win!), a ping pong table, which ya know i was loving ,brazilian dancing, and to quote garth from wayne´s world, ¨ they got a a pool table too!¨ The first night we were there, we knew we were in for a good time.... it jus happened that we arrived when there was a full moon and the hostel offered a special moonlight tour of the waterfalls that night... amanda and i took it in, and man it didn´t dissapoint... seeing these immense falls, bigger than niagra falls...well more hearing them with just enuff moonlight to give you just a glimpse of their amazing size and power... wow..it was incredible... but really was only a appetizer for the main serving! We met some very nice gals from england who we will be meeting up with again in uruguay, so the night worked out very well on all fronts...
The next day we joined up wth joan (our last day togther ...booo)... and hit the falls for the whole day... we have seen some pretty amazing things on this trip... the volcanoes of guatemala... the sacred valley and macchu picchu in peru... the salt flats in bolivia... but nothing
Calm before the storm
The water is surprisingly calm and quiet before it barrels over the side. has left me speechless ( inset joke here-Jeff? speechless?) like iguazu falls...
What we had failed to realize from the night before was that though we had seen the biggest waterfall in the natural park, we had only seen one of the oh, about 300 of them! All of them utterly spectacular...each so unique...let me put it this way, back home if we would have seen ONE waterfall like any of them there, we´d be like wow..that is amazing... but 300? Crazy... I could go on, but i think the pics will speak for themselves on this one... three seperate trails.... different views of the myriad of falls...brazil right there... it was one of those times that you felt like you had smoked one too many smiths falls cigarettes (if ya know what I mean)...and were like ¨wow... nature¨ (GOULET!)
We said our farewells to joan the next day and had originally planned on headin out ourselves ... but the beautiful weather and awesome surroundings, not to mention the daunting 20 hour bus ride ahead of us, convinced us to hang around for a few days more...
we spent them playing cards... (the crazy 8 countdown score
now stands at 29-16 for the good guy!) , tried to teach chase the ace, which turned into a pretty crazy drinking game actually, blackjack (where i drunkenly utilized the homer simpson strategy (19...hit me..20...hit me...21 hit me! DOH!) and though we haven´t had a chance to take in our own soccer action in person, watched on the big screen the champions league final...man if the real thing is half as intense as watching this game with the whole room either spanish (rooting for barcelona) or english (rooting for arsenal)...it ll be crazy indeed! Cant wait for the world cup to begin!
We finally departed yesterday morning around 11 30 for the town of rosario... 20 hours away! I will never ever complain that busride seems to be taking forever again, though watching mean girls reminded me of home (awww st. john!) and Emily Brady in particular! We also watched motorcycle diaries again this week...man what a different movie when you watch it and have actually been to all the places in the movie...if you havent seen this movie... watch it!
Speaking of which (good segway Jeff!)... we are now coming to you from the home of che
guevara himself, rosario... this was his birth place...knowing that he achieved much of his notoriety and had many of his most important accomplishments else where, we still expected there to be something cool about him here...well though this is a pleasant city and we picked up some cheap gifts..there has been nothing so far denoting it as his birthplace... the apartment building where he was born does not even have any markings on it...kinda dissapointing...
Tomorrow we head to Buenos Aires again before catching a ferry across to country number 6 on our excursion... Uruguay!
Hope everyone is well and good luck to all the st. john crew with the relay for life!
