Is it me, or does that look like butt cheeks??
On the Saturday when I was supposed to have my last Polish lesson, I said hells no, showed up at the school's office to turn in my evaluation form (only for the host family b/c I hadn't received the form for the teachers up to that point), then I used the excuse that I had to leave to go to the train station and so I can't go to class.

Whatever.

Then I skipped out of there, went across the street, and bought myself one last yummy piece of cake to celebrate! My original plan was to eat it inside the cafe, but the lady bagged it for me without asking, so my alternate plan -- which was just as good -- became that I would take that piece of cake with me and eat it inside the Botanical Garden. It would be a little picnic. With only cake, because that's all the money I was willing to spend. :-p

The name of the garden, officially, I think is
Ogród botaniczny Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego.

To get to the garden is very easy, just head east for about 10 minutes starting fromt he market square.

To enter the garden it only costs 5 zlotys. There is also the museum that I can go into with the garden ticket (museum is inside the garden). The musem closes earlier, so I went to see it first. It's just a small house, a man worked in one of the rooms/offices, and there is a vestibule area and 2 rooms with exhibits. In the vestibule there were paintings of plants; in the smaller of the two rooms there were seeds from various pine trees; and in the big room there were seeds, and samples of exotic plants (I call them exotic b/c I have no idea what they are). And of course really old notebooks from botanical expeditions that happened more than a hundred years ago. When I was leaving, I asked the man who was working in the office if they had any carnivorous plants in the garden and he said yes... They are in the last green house. Yeay.

It was mostly overcast and at times sprinkly, and I felt like I had the garden all to myself because so few people were there. Probably only around a dozen, and I was the only one strolling in there

What happened to the other half of the tree?
by myself...

After leaving the museum I went along one of the paths and it lead me to a small lake. I decided that that was the perfect spot for my picnic and I brought out my piece of cake. But oh no, I forgot to get a fork! So there I was, in a beautiful park, sitting on a bench, and trying to figure out how to eat my cake -- with my hands? Not too lady like, but I managed. :-p No pix of me face full of cake, sorry.

Then I kept strolling, looking at the plants, taking pictures of little things. On one hand I was glad it was overcast and cloudy because I hate being hot, but on the other, my photos all turnd out flat because the lighting sucked. Suppose that's a trade off that I have to live with.

I hope the garden gets more visitors when the weather picks up. It's one of the many green spaces that exists in Krakow and IMHO it's one of the prettiest. There are 2 lakes, greenhouses, a japanese rock garden, weird old art pieces, busts of old

Where I had my cake...
dead dudes, quiet little areas where you can sit and make out... What's there not to like?

C'mon, everyone, go visit the Ogrod!

How cute. We should do this back home, too.

Polish folks have a thing for tulips. Old ladies along the streets are always selling them. They sure are pretty.

so you are rebellious
Did you make a huge file about your hostfamily´s inhospitality and mess? dirty diapers and pads - yuck *host host vomitting* But anyway and listen carefully now: I might go back to Krakow for one week in the beginning of June, with my husband this time. He's okey, not as funny as I am, but I am a special case I guess. Let's meet again then, right! Take care - Vala

fix for the flats
Hi, Judy. I am enjoying your reportage. Jenny forwarded it to me. By the way, if you are using a PC you can download free from Google their wonderful photo manipulation program called Picasa. It will fix those photos you think are too flat and do it mighty quickly. Hope to see you when you get back.
