March 22 Monument Valley
In Kayenta at the Best Western. Had to get a high dollar room here yesterday to get out of the dust storm. As soon as the dust storm quit it started snowing. But I've been outside and it is clear and cold now so it ought to be a great day to tour Monument Valley. That's the place you see in dozens of westerns. I'm right here at the entrance to it. I probably won't leave till almost 1100 so that will give the snow or ice time to melt off of the roads. Looks like it will be a gorgeous day !
The dust storm of yesterday stopped when it started raining and then turned to snowing finally later in the afternoon. I had sought refuge in the Best Western in Kayenta for $76.83.
Wasn't really much of a choice in lodging. One outside of town and 2 in town; all high dollar. Still I checked in early at 12:30 so I made good use of the day catching up on my blog and taking care of some other details. I will probably be here till almost check out time today as well. May as well

The weather started out cold in Kayenta but the sun came out and it became clear and cool. Great touring weather for Monument Valley.
get my $76 worth.
Up drinking my coffee and getting ready to get dressed. It is a beautiful day outside with some snow accumulations but I figure most of that will be gone by 11:00.
Kayenta is in the Navajo Nation just south of Monument Valley so I should get a good days touring in.
Been checking the reviews on tripadvisor and there is a motel called the San Juan Inn at Mexican Hat just on the Arizona-Utah border that looks to be a good bet for tonight's lodging.....unless I find a good, cheap RV park.
I loaded up the truck and checked out and headed North on Hwy 163 into Monument Valley. It was pretty impressive and I took quite a few pictures. The weather was beautiful and nice and cool.
After touring Monument Valley I had intended to get a room for the night at Mexican hat at a hotel called the San Juan Inn in Mexican Hat which had gotten pretty fair reviews in tripadvisor.com. But I seem to have mixed it up with another place just coming into town and decided to keep on going.
More on that in my next entry.
