Edit Blog Post

Due to the campground Internet packing a sad Steph only got half way through the last blog before it died so here goes. Sunday we got onto the original part of route 66 and headed towards a small town called Oatman. To say this place was weird would be an insult to weird as it was a ghost town which has sprung to life for the toursists. There were donkeys wandering the main street and people dressed in old western gear complete with side arms etc. A wacky mix of old and new but good for a stop and a laugh. Decided to head to a town called Seligman for the night (which was where Stephs last blog came from) and found a KOA campground. Set up camp in what I would term as a handy site..When I say handy that is because it was 100 meters from the trans American railway which was so frequent you hardly notice the trains after the first 30 or so. On the other side was the main route out of town route 66 and in the distance about 1 mile was the main I40 highway which only had a truck passing every three seconds, as opposed to the trains which were more frequent by far. Now you see what I mean by handy!
Head off to sleep to a bit of noise but it didn't last long....just until it turned from a bit of noise to lot of noise. A pretty sleepless night. When you combine this with the temperature of close to zero it made for a good first nights sleep.
Headed away East towards Prescott which turned out to be a biggish town set up for the retirement business. There was a lot of money in the air here. Once we had a bite to eat we headed to a NP monument called Montezumas castle which was an Indian pueblo style building built into a cliff face. It waas about five stories up and quite amazing feat of building. We then headed towar a place called Sedona. As we headed around a bend in the road we were greeted with a sight straight out of a western movie. Ahead of us were huge red butes of rock sticking up. Most would have been about 1000 meters high. My first words were that the Grand Canyon will have to be good to be grander than this. It was absolutely amazing everywhere we drove we were bombarded with these huge red rock formations. The town of Sedona was set in a valley with these formations all around. All the housing ( and there were heaps of them) were all painted a red or grey colour so they actually disappeared into the surroundings really well. We spent the afternoon driving around the area being blown away at every turn then headed off to the camp site for the night. Much more peaceful beside the Oak creek which made for a great nights sleep. Today we are heading North towards the Grand Canyon via Flagstaff so looking forward to setting up camp for a few nights and doing a bit of tramping in the Canyon.
