Good Sweet Lord I am exhausted.
First off I would like to comment on the raw beef meal from 2 days ago. It was called "beef Carpaccio" as I just looked it up, so some of the food connoisseurs among my vast audience may have known that it was going to be raw. For the rest of us I have a picture.
On to today - the day started off with our free breaky which consisted of Cheese, cheese and more cheese (nom). This included Gouda, goat cheese and some delicious norwegian cheese, rye bread, jams and some Granola. And obviously coffee. We decided to go cross country skiing in the mountains because fishing wasn't available and we couldn't rent snowboarding equipment anywhere. We set off with some food packed as well as layers, and my giant (STUPID) camera. This pack ended up feeling like a small gorilla on my back later on in the trip, but we will get to that. Marius, the guy at our bed and breakfast, lent us his equipment and told us where to go. We took a lift up the mountain which was like a T-bar (the skiing kind...guys...) that goes between your legs. Only
40KR for one way which is like 8 bucks. After we fumbled down 2 passages getting off the lift, mom realized her camera wasn't there (we still don't know if she left it at home - but pretty sure she lost it). She had to go back through the deep snow and I tried to find it near our spills but no such luck. Then as we were heading off her mitten rolled down the hill.. probably about 200m away, down the hill.... so she had to go trudge down for that. THEN we were off. The mountain scenery was gorgeous and the snow insulated the noise so well it was almost creepy how quiet it was. We were alone too and following a random set of tracks that we hoped was our route. The whiteness of the snow made it so that there was no definition in the landscape either. It was like a snow desert. After we crossed our second lake, we met Tora. She was wearing a Canada hat so I thought she was Canadian and started talking to her. Turns out her neice was in the olympics and she was, in fact, Norwegian. She told us
Mom skiing on a lake
before climbing the mountain we skied on a lake at the bottom of the mountain where we could go for a view, and then decided to take us. The trek up the side of the mountain, in cross country skiis, carrying my gorilla bag, was ......rather difficult. You have to step sideways the whole way up, and sometimes change direction of the skiis which inevitably leads to staring to slide back down and somersaulting with skiis. My ankles must have rolled 20 times. My thoughts up the mountain sounded like this 'THIS IS MY HELLLLLLLLL...... CURSE YOU.'...and so on. When we got to the top, though, it was worth it. Beautiful view, despite the cloudiness and the very strong wind.
ONE WOULD THINK the way back down would be easy.. but oh no.. ohhhh no. For anyone who has cross country skied, they know that going down hills can pose a challange. Tora decided to turn around and lead us down the mountain (i think she felt very sorry for us). She showed us the way, gracefully carving through the snow, while mother and I were zig zagging side to side, and instead of her S-shaped turns we would have a shape that resembles charlee rolling around in the snow.. with giant skiis attached. Plus
Me on the lake
Lots of people around gorilla bag liked to jump on over my head as I face planted onto the sides of the beautiful Norwegian mountains. Five hours later, Tora led us back to sea level and we are now back in the bed and breakfast. I proceeded to take an Infra Red Sauna.. I don't know if this is a European thing, but it sends out IR waves and heats you from the inside... sounds scary.. but it is glorious. I even watched Parks & Recreation on Megavideo while i was basking.
Long story short I am OKAY (don't anyone worry) and I am off to an ice sculpture museum and a World War 2 museum (surprise surprise)
ps. Mom's "adventure" count is at about 15 now. physical beatings to follow.

Cross Country Skiing
Your ski trip looked aMAZING. Isn't it cool how quiet it is?! Do you know which mountain you climbed....or how long and how much altitude change there was? Sounds like you guys were sweetly oblivious to the "adventure" that unveiled as you went haha. I love your pictures...and mom that sucks about your camera, I'm sure that kirb will have a ton of pics for both of you anyways. Miss you guys, and I am very jealous, it looks absolutely stunning there. Love Carly
