After early breakfast yesterday we met our guide moggie and driver tabat. Then we set off to the the peak of a hill to get a nice view over the city. We then headed onto the national park, our first stop was a cave where monks hid out during communist era for two weeks, we also stopped at a pile of rocks to do a buddhist tradition where you walk round it three times clockwise throwing stones or sweets as offerings. We then set off to meet the first family in the ger camp who made us lunch. There ger was very nice, clean and had electricity. The family had a young girl called anno. After a lovely lunch, I headed to a monastery whilst my mum stayed in the ger. The monastery was very colourfull and gave an amazing view. Really showed you how out in middle of nowhere you were with snow covered mountains. After this trip we proceeded on our drive where we were stopped by mongolian herdsman as he moved iis sheep, lambs, goats and cows whilst on camel back. Very surreal.. He was also in traditional mongolian dress. We then headed to a massive statue of chengis khaan, literally in middle of nowhere. We then headed to meet a family from kazakhstan where we got chance to camel ride, not that easy! I have bruises from this where you dont want to know! Not sure I could do it for hours, and very high up. We were given green tea by this family with salt in it, must be an acquired taste! We also got chance to hold their eagle. After this we were given choice to stay here or with first family. We choose first family as cleaner and more welcoming and they had beds! We went back to first family and everyone made dinner, dumplings whilst I played with the little girl (getting experience with kids for when william arrives!). We then had dinner with the family and we shared our shortbread which everyone loved especially anno who eat loads and went very hyper!. We then played family games with ankle bones from sheep and goats! Turns out of were quite good at it with my mum winning first game and me the second. We then settled down to bed after long day with warm fire to keep us hot through night. Had amazing sleep and woke at 9 for breakfast where we had pancakes type things with jam. Anno joined me and sang along to my ipod. We then said goodbye to the family who had been so nice to us and set on our drive. We stopped when d came across some mongolian horse riding, and watched for a while. The jockeys being young children. We then headed onto another family who lived in house rather than ger who gave us our lunch and prepared horses for our ride. We then got chance to go on horse ride through snow covered mountains towards another monastery. Trotting was painful after camel ride previous day but we enjoyed galloping. Despite no helmets you felt safe as horses here are more pony sized. We then headed to a museum and monastery. We then had chance to ride our horses back, much more enjoyable as they galloped more. The mongolian horse guide controlled the horses by whistling. We then had quick rest before coming back to our hostel the golden gobi. Again another private room with shower, cups of tea too and now hostel is full of hungarians so I practised some of mine and felt at home once again! Quiet night as we stock up again for train. Half five start tomorrow morning for breakfast before train journey!

Wow!
Sounds great - quite fancy this part of your holiday, not sure about the train though.... Anne, you'll have a lot to tell us when you get back! The family sounds lovely and welcoming. Safe travelling for next part of the journey. Love, Linda x
