Niagara falls NY is contra to what I thought a poor town where you shouldn't walk outdoors alone after 9 PM if you value your live and credit card. It was pretty much deserted when we arrived and whilst walking towards our hotel hoping to find a bus stop going in that direction we finally stopped a taxi because although there are bus stops in Niagara, there don't seem to be buses. Later were told by Joe the taxi driver that if you are lucky you can catch a bus every 5 hours and once every 24 hours on Sundays. 😊) We dropped our luggage of at the hotel and went out to find the Falls to get a glimpse of the it in the dark. Just by following the roaring sound of the falling water we found it!!!!! Although covert in a shroud of mist you can sense the grandness of it, very impressive!! Because it was cold and rainy we decided to walk back to the hotel along the river which was also very impressive, nothing but white water, I couldn't help but thinking what would happen if you would fall in, knowing that there have been people that
did so on purpose of some of which even survived.....
The next morning, being hungry we went for our promised “continental breakfast” finding nothing but some old cereal and cheap looking muffins and no milk. Still being hungry we set of for the Falls. Following the river, which seemed even more wild as it did last night we got to the NY side of the Niagara falls. I am sure it looks great in the summer but the ice and the snow made it look very impressive and grand. The water that is being thrown back up had formed great big pieces of blueish and greenish ice blocks at the bottom of the waterfall. Not being able to see the “horse shoe” Falls on the Canadian side we set of to cross the bridge to Canada which is cool to do, was it not for Dari being escorted back to the US side of the bridge under gun point. The thing is (we of course knew but we had give it a try anyway) that when you hold a Czech passport you need a Visa to be able to enter Canada, but because we weren't planning on going there
she did not get one. As nice as a boyfriend as I am I of course went ahead in to Canada anyway later to report back to Dari with stories of my adventure from across the bridge 😊 Sorry baby but I promise we will go there during an other trip 😊
From this side you have a much better view of both Falls and especially the “horse shoe” falls is beautiful, impressive and big. There weren't a lot of people around, mainly because it was freezing cold and windy which made it easy to imagine the place a few hundred years ago when there were no building around making it even more gorgeous.
After taking in the scenery and taking pictures we had to get ready to catch our train to Chicago. We had only planned to stay at Niagara falls for about 24 hours because although the Falls are beautiful there is nothing, really nothing to do on both sides of the border but gambling. After calling Joe, our private taxi driver (we lost all hope on catching the bus) we set of for the train station to catch our train to Buffalo and from there
to Chicago!!!!!!
