Sao Paulo Carnaval
The view from our hotel window Yikes! Please take back everything I ever said about Brazil being cleaner than Argentina - Sao Paulo is FILTHY!
We arrived to our hotel about 9pm and stayed in Kings Cross equivalent - but in a city of 19 millin people I´m sure you can imagine what it was like! They had carnival type celebratins going on which we watched from our hotel window. There was loads of people all partying and dancing down the street to the samba sound coming off the float. It was really cool!
We had typical type Brazilian BBQ feast for dinner - I ordered a bottle of Brazilian red - big mistake, it was like grape juice! The meat was great!
Afterwards we headed out for a few ´quiet´drinks right next to our hotel at the local lesbian bar Maryjane .....EEEEEeeeeek. I think we got about 4 steps in the door before being harassed - the first, a short, fat brazilian chick with braces asked, no actually begged, for a kiss. I told her Nicole would do it and in retaliation she pushed my face into this stinky little Brazilians face and was like ´here she will kiss you´. She didn´t get further
than my cheek though! The rest of our group thought it was hilarious. We also were too afraid of going to the bathroom alone so we went together - and I´m talking in the same cubicle together, that´s how frightening it was. Mid wee there is this bang bang bang bang on the door and people yelling at us in Portugese something along the lines of ´get the F$ck out of there before I kick the door in´. Apparently your not allowed to share and in a lesbian bar I´m pretty sure I know why, but it was a life or death situation, I´m sure you would have done the same!
I was lucky to sleep in until 1pm the following day, missed the walk around the city but I got the facts later, 10th richest city in the world - certainly didn´t see a hint of that where we were, most amount of helicopters in the whole world, about 500, which is probably why we didn´t see a hint of money anywhere.
After my snooze we went into the Japanese food district in town and enjoyed our first sushi feast since leaving home - I was in
heaven. It was beautiful.
The city is undescribably MASSIVE. Skyscrapers in every direction for as far as you can see.
We hung around at the hotel until quite late with the other tour group playing drinking games and whatnot - I felt like I was 18 again - it was kinda fun! Then headed out to the club district at about midnight - but after skipping dinner we didn´t last too long and were home by 2ish.
That´s it for Sao Paulo - I´m glad it´s over!
P.S I managed 5 pictures yesterday, it took an hour and a half, and a Brazilian business man accusing me of stealing his camera USB plug thingy, the cheeky bastard.
Obragada, that´s all I´ve got in Portugese, it means thank you!
