School this week has been mostly spent revising how to talk about people and to this means we have been talking alot about James Blunt who is one of our examples ... James Blunt is British, he was born in Hampshire on 23rd February 1977 and is a singer ... It was therefore quite appropriate that it was to a James Blunt conert we took ourselves on Thursday night.
After failing to purchase tickets in advance (my Spanish may be good but you need to be Cervantes to understand the Ticketmaster Mexico website) we turned up on the night without tickets to find that it was sold out. And that is where thsi story could end. But it doesn´t. Not to have made a wasted journey we decided to sit outside the venue in the bar opposite and listen from there which we did for the warm-up act, a girl called Chocolate apparently, who was quite good. We then thought we would just go over to the door to take a peek and see what we could see. Amazingly we could see teh stage and we watched the start of Jame´s first number from there thankful that security were letting us

stay. However, then they came over with more abrriers and asked us to form a queue, thinking we were being thrown out we almost walked away but instead the security guys started handing us tickets and beackoning us through into the theartre. It seems they had some spare tickets afterall and since it was too late to sell them they were giving them away!
I like to think of it as a birthday present from Mexico and to make up for the hours and houes Anne and I have spent going around and around town lost on the public buses, in which teh same number doe snot signify the same route and the route out is not the route back in reverse - very confusing!
The concert was excellent, and his voise is not at all annoying in real life. It was amazing to be standing with thousands of other people all sininging along to "you´re beautiful", even if its was pronounced´"ur buttyfull" by the majority of mexicans. An advantage with seeing concerts in Mexico compared to home is that I can actually see over the crowd here too, being taller than the average woman and not much smaller than

To celebrate my birthday (this Monday, 8th May for those of you who forgot! 😉 ) the family with whom I´m staying held a barbeque for me. It was a really nice evening with the family, the family´s cousins Beto and Gina and friend Luis (now our new friends!), and Anne. The food was yummy and after dinner we broke a piñata, a traditional birthday thing for children: a huge papier-mache character which you break open by hitting repeatedly with a stick until all the sweet and toys fall out, and it was really fun although I was pretty bad at it! Also after dinner the guitars came out (Ernesto and Beto both play really well) and we sung a mixture of English and Mexican songs (well I didn´t sing any Mexican!) accompanied, where the Mexican tradition dictated, by the plastic beaker with fork and taquila bottle percussion. Finally we finished off by kicking a ball around in the empty street outside. A quiet but really lovely evenining as befits getting up at 5.30am the next morning to teach 14 year olds how to say James Blunt´s birthday. At least we

wont have to teach the Happy Birthday song again for a while.

ps. I have now officially run out of cadbury´s chocolate and marmite and am down to my last few earl grey teabags ...

pps. I also have a Mexican mobile now, which I share with Anne, so if any of you want my number for anything email me and I´ll send it (that only applies to people who I actually know! ) although you can´t text this phone from international numbers. My UK phone is still with me though and I can send and receive lovely messages to and from you all on that.
