Thurs. 10 Feb. N’Orleans
This will be quick as I am somewhat behind and now in Orlando so lets try and make it a picture digest.

After the somewhat miserable rain yesterday afternoon, at least it wasn’t raining today. Checked out of the hotel ard noonish but it was still pretty grey – and although temp. to be a max. 8C it seemed more like 5-6 to me! In fact as the sun came out it seemed to get colder later anyway and I returned to hotel later in arvo for my fleece jacket – layering only works if the layers are warm enough!

It seemed even colder when the sun came out after grey day- doubt it got warmer than 8 yesterday. Just wandered around the Vieux Carre (Old Quarter) and did old building shots and found Skully’z Recordz on upper Bourbon St by accident (well away from the sleazy bars depicted elsewhere). Had a a very long and amicable chat with Dan behind the counter about records and vinyl and multiple other subjects and bought latest CD by Deerhoof, indy darlings, who I had seen in San Fran at the Great American Music Hall at a launch

gig. He was playing Tame Impala (band from Perth?) at the time – they and new psych rock quite popular here now. Got down to the old French Market finally but it was well closed but did see Jimmy Buffet’s store Margarittaville and attendant merchandise – never did really get that guy musically. Saw a bit of the River (Mississippi).

Got the heritage St Charles streetcar out for 20 mins – by then dark and got next one back. A hot seafood place, by reviews, had a long wait for a table, so went to the Court of 2 Daughters which was rather more slow and relaxed than I wanted as I just wanted a quick chow and out to Greyhound bus. Had another Sazerac – feeling like a desperate for doing so, but it a “local” drink – for tourists no doubt. And some penne pasta in creamy sauce with crawfish, prawns etc, quite nice. Then cab down to Greyhound – too far and dark to walk. Horrified to find out would be 2 hrs late and might not get on despite prior booking. Depsite this scare we all got on – and it more or less left

on time. To Mobile, Alabama to debus at 11pm – and wait til midnight for next bust to Orlando & Miami. Met a very nice young freshman called Brandon from Tulane uni – a keen rower, although not a big huge hulk. He is on scholarship doing philosophy and biochemistry as pre-med degree – just as well as tuition+ live in board is around $53,000 pa! He left at Tallahassee Florida where we had another layover. Barely any sleep – and no curtains either – but it did have wifi so sent my brother John an email from a moving bus from my Ipod!

Hi Mike, What simply beautiful photo's. Unashamed to say, they reminded me of my 1978! Muhammed Ali fight time there. Love the "Alibi" bar, he he, few could own up to being being there at some time, someday! Freshman fee's boy! a few drinks at Sazerac would need to be downed to get that by parents. Love Huddo and girls.
