Hanoi - Halong Bay!

We took advantage of being so close to the world famous Halong Bay and booked up on a 2 day boat trip which included staying out in the bay overnight on our boat.

Halong Bay has over 3,000 rugged islands which are dotted around the Gulf of Tonkin, it is a pretty majestic sight. In every direction there is jagged islands that just come shooting out the sea! At the time of year we are at, it was really misty (and freezing cold!) but this just seemed to add something to make them more mysterious.

As part of our trip we were taken through enormous caves in one of the many islands which were very spectacular (although a bit too many tourists!!). We also got to get a bit too close to the icy waters by going kayaking in among the islands. We ended up letting our competitive side creep in by racing Claire and James across the bay - which we won of course 😉 There were also floating villages on the waters which were really interesting to see, complete with their own mini-schools as well. We always find it fascinating seeing just how differently some other people live out here in Asia.

On our boat we were treated to slap up meals of freshly cooked fish, rice, chicken, chips, and veg - the same for breakfast, lunch and dinner!! Same, same but different!

As this is our last stop in Vietnam, we started to look back and think how much we have enjoyed this brilliant country. We feel like we have got proper taste of Vietnam, experienced the culture and seen so much of it in the month we have travelled here.
