A Ray of SunshineA Ray of SunshineA Ray of Sunshine

Couldn't believe how well this came out.... That mountain is Pinchincha, an active volcano.
Well... I don't even know where to begin. My last post I think was after my pictures at the school.... which means that I have a lot to cover. Basically since I posted that last entry a lot has happend. Probably going to start with the biggest bang first (you'll see the pun in a few sentences)...
So we're making dinner, have dinner, and are watching Nacho Libre, Kendal, Stacey and myself. Nothing out of the ordinary. Stacey wanted to bake muffins and goes and starts the oven and puts them in. While she was doing that I went to clean the dishes as per my job. The garbage disposal was making a terrible smell as I was cleaning up the remains of our salad, we turned on the vent over the oven and opened the window (the slit that we could open). The smell went away. Kendal goes to take a shower and Stacey starts having trouble with the internet so she ventures down stairs to check on the other group of ladies. I begin to smell that stench again and walk into the kitchen. I approach the sink, nothing out of the ordinary. As I turn to exit the kitchen the oven f#@*ing explodes.... It sounded like a shotgun shooting glass. It knocked me back and shattered the full kitchen window. It burned my left hand's fingers and shaved my left foot of all hair.
Get this! When they went to investigate, our gas was near empty, had it been full they said without a doubt I would have died...
Now before anyone blames the apartment complex or even Stacey's muffins, neither caused what happend, it could have happend to anyone, anywhere. The apartment complex was excessively nice and supportive. We are now staying in their nicest apartment for the same cost of the most basic. They even got a Dr. to come mis-diagnose (which wasn't their fault) my burns and got me bandages. Upon going to the nurse at the school I found that my pinky was 1st degree, my ring finger was second and my middle was singed. I will never forget that moment for the rest of my life. My ring finger will scar but with no impairment to my movement which is good. I kinda hoped that had I got hurt on this trip it would be something cool and exotic, not baking muffins... All I know is that someone was looking out for me that night.
Now you may be wondering why I didn't post sooner. Tonight is the first time I have had internet since the explosion, finally. Anyway not all has been bad, some good laughs, I have a good story and we ventured into historic Quito to see the most beautiful church in all of the Americas, La Camponeia. It was built from 1605 to 1765 and the entire enterior is covered in 23 karot gold paint... breath taking.
Oh and since I have felt like a bother to others I began actually writing my Sci-Fi novel, 4,000 words in and it felt really good to write it!
Check out the pictures.
Your Friend,
Evan

The door wasn't damaged when it blew open so I figured there was no point taking a picture of that.
