My castle!
Posing under the castle ***Segovia pics: http://community.webshots.com/album/549934468EaDBLM
Hi everyone! Rachel and I went to Segovia today! It was about an hour bus ride from Avila. The weather was absolutely perfect today and it made Segovia so much more beautiful than it already is! I loved it and had such a great day! The normal Amy who isn't super depressed is back (finally)! Thank you to everyone who prayed for me..it helped a ton and I'm so thankful to be out of that rut I was in.
Anyways, once we got to Segovia we walked down this road that Ryann, one of the other American girls I'm here with, recommended that we do because we can get some good pictures. It was such a pretty view, however, I had some difficulty getting there...There are these big concrete stumps that are on the side of the sidewalk along the road about every 6 or 7 feet from each other. I don't really know what purpose they serve...Maybe to keep cars from running onto the sidewalk? I have no idea. So Rachel and I are walking along and I'm in awe of this huge castle that I'm walking past, so I'm not really paying attention to
Segovia
The Roman Aqueduct the fact that I'm about to ram my shin into the concrete lump...and I did. And it hurt really badly. I stopped and made sure that I wasn't bleeding (I was, but only a little) and we continued on our way. It wasn't too long after this that I was in amazement again of the castle and the scenery. The next thing I know, I've run into one of those stupid stumps again and I'm not laying on the ground on my stomach. I nearly toppled over into the road. So much for those stumps protecting you from cars...So I now have 2 huge lumps/bruises on my shin. Very attractive and very comfortable to walk around a ton! It was really funny though because I am ALWAYS falling or at least severely tripping so this didn't surprise me.
We visited the Cathedral in Segovia first. It was really pretty inside, but I am discovering that once you see one cathedral in Europe, the rest are pretty much the same. There might be a few differences here and there, but most of them are similar. I'm always amazed how pretty they are inside, but it wasn't anything different from what
Segovia
A view of Segovia from the top of the castle I am used to seeing. The only thing that was different about this cathedral is that there was a wedding going on while we were there! Rachel and I wandered into a chapel that was off to the side of the cathedral and as soon as we walked in the doors, the "here comes the bride" music started playing on the organ. We couldn't exactly leave since she was about to walk in the door we needed to exit from, soo, we got to see this beautiful Spanish lady with a beautiful dress on walk down the aisle. We then quickly left with a few other tourist since we were all wearing jeans and had cameras. Haha! It was fun to see though because I love weddings!
While we were trying to find a place to eat we came upon the old Roman aqueduct that Segovia is well-known for. It was beautiful. The pictures that I took just don't do it justice. It was such a neat thing to look at, even though it was just an aqueduct, but to think about how they built this huge thing that used to be 16 km long and 29 m high when they didn't have the technology like we do today is what makes it most amazing to me. It was built in the first century AD. I think that this is one of my favorite things that I have seen since I have been here.
After the aqueduct and lunch (we ate at a restaurant named the American Restuarant and I had fajitas, so I got my Mexican craving fixed), we ventured off to the Alcazar (castle). This castle was built when the Romans ruled...its complete with a moat and all! It's up on a cliff/steep hill, so when we were at the top of the tower, my knees were very weak because it was so high. There was this one dad that was trying to show off for his kids, but most of all make his wife freak out and yell at him to get down because he was sitting on the ledge of the tower! While he was doing this, she was making sure that their two young daughters didnt lean over too far. I was really sick to my stomach and couldn't watch him. Finally the wife got onto him for not helping watch the 2 girls and for acting "tanto" (silly). Haha. I tried to get the best pitcures that I could without getting to close to the side! Anyways, supposedly this castle is what inspired Walt Disney's Sleeping Beauty Castle in Disneyland. Overall this castle was pretty, but it still didn't top the palace in Munich. It's definitely prettier on the outside-its what you would think that a castle is supposed to look like, but as for the inside, it didn't amaze me too much. Rachel and I also spent a lot of time taking a ton of pictures of the beautiful tulips in the courtyard of the castle. Some of them reminded me of IU, which I miss a ton right now because it's soooo beautiful at this time of the year! It was a pretty relaxed day and nice to just get out of Avila. I'm not sure what is going on for the rest of the weekend...I still have 3 more days off because of holidays. I can't believe that I leave here in less than 2 weeks (leave Avila). It's kind of sad, but I think, no, I know I'll be ready. I'm looking forward to what is ahead as well!
Thats about all for now...let me know how you are doing! Hasta luego...

Our Princess
Your pictures are beautiful. The most beautiful pictures are the ones that you are in. When you were born, Dr Hirsch said "you have a princess". And now our princess has finally arrived at her castle. We miss you and love you!!! Can't wait to see you in person.
