A Brief Visit to Memphis.....Beale Street and Graceland

BRRRRRRR! Beale Street must be entirely different in the hot steamy summer weather. We were bundled up in our winter coats and would stop in different stores just to get warm. We walked the 3 blocks and listened to music on the street, before going into BB Kings. There we settled in with beverages and food to listen to the music. There was a 17 year old guitarist who was just down right amazing. The house band came on at 9 and was the BB King All Stars. We could have stayed and listened longer, but had a shuttle to catch to go back to our campground .

Ever since having the bread pudding at Tony Paco’s in Toledo, Ohio I have wanted more. At BB Kings it was on the menu as one of their house dishes, so of course I had to try it. It was warm and wonderful, but…..Tony Paco’s bread pudding is still the best!

A stop in Memphis wouldn’t be complete without visiting Graceland…..once. It’s part of Americana pop history. Elvis was part of my childhood, so it was interesting to visit and see his home, cars, motorcycles, planes, fashions and awards. We opted for the mid price tour package, for a couple dollars more, there was a whole lot more to see. George lingered more in the car museum and I lingered more in the fashion museum. In many ways it was just a trip into our own past. Different displays brought back a variety of memories. Even though George and I have been together 30+ years and we’ve covered most topics, I had never told him that I saw Elvis perform in Las Vegas in the mid 70’s. That was a crazy fun girl trip.

There were other things we would have liked to have done while we were in Memphis, but opted not to this visit. We camped at the RV campground by Graceland, so we could just walk over for the tour. We opted to not unhook the car, as we could take a shuttle down to Beale St.

I so welcome your impressions as you travel....if it was many years ago and you were my student, Lynne, I'd give you an A for your descriptive writing. Many thanks for taking the time to share your wonderful travel spots.
