The KunaThe KunaThe Kuna

They are coming out to meet us.
Our first stop in the Atlantic Ocean was Shelter Bay. While we were at Shelter Bay I made some friends. On the last day we were there I got invited over to a mega yacht called Supernova. There was a kid on there who was 7 years old and he wanted to play Wii with me. The next day we left Shelter Bay and went to an anchorage that had an old Spanish fort. We got there around dinner time so we went into town and there were only 2 restaurants that we could find which we thought was weird. The next day we left kind of early because the town was so small that we couldn't do anything. When we got to Isle Grande it was really hot so we jumped in the water. That night my dad was not feeling well so me Jack and Jack went into town to have dinner. Then the next day we left to go to the San Blas islands. When we got there right when our anchor was set the Kuna (the natives of the San Blas) came out in there dug out canoe and tried to sell us fish and stuff like that. After we got all settled we went out snorkeling. The snorkeling was not that good because it was pretty much all grass. After that we went back to the boat and my dad cooked the fish we bought for dinner. The next day at around noon we left to go to another island of the San Blas. When we got there we pumped up the dingy and got our snorkeling gear together. Then we went to an island were there was a ship wreck, but when we got there they charged us 2 dollars to do it and we didn't have money with us so we just went back to the boat. When we got back to the boat we snorkeled around the boat. Where we snorkeled was actually the best place to snorkel. We saw brain coral, sharks, and barracuda. After that spot we went to a spot that only had 2 feet of water. Jack found two sand dollars which were pretty cool. The next day we left to go to another anchorage. When we got there it took us a long time to find an anchorage spot because it was really reefy. After we were anchored another boat came in and ran aground right next to us. After that my dad and I went out spearfishing without any luck. When we got back to our boat a Kuna came out in his canoe and said we had to pay 10 dollars because he was the chief of the islands we were at. After we paid him the chief invited us to a bonfire on his island. That night we went in to the bonfire and all of his relatives were there. Jack got his camera out and started taking pictures and the natives just kept wanting their picture taken. When it started raining the chief just said, “rain you need to get back to your boat.” The next day the chief's son came out in a canoe with its sail up and asked us something that we didn't understand and we thought it was about fishing, so we followed him to a spot where we could snorkel. There was a big current so it was hard to move. There were some big coral heads but not a lot of fish. Then we went back to our boat and the chief came out asking us to charge his cell phone. When he came back to get it we were about to leave and Jack asked the chief for a blessing of some sort and the chief said, “good luck”. After that we left the anchorage and started going to Cartahania
inia. The current was so bad and we were running out of fuel so we had to turn back and go to Shelter Bay. While we were going we were really low on fuel and we were going backwards so we found a place on the chart that had fuel. When we got there it was lunch time so nothing was open. We had to wait a bit but when we did get the fuel we pulled up anchor and started back to Shelter Bay. When we got there all my friends I made were still there and I got to play with them for a bit before we left to go to Bocas del Toro. When we got there Supernova was there so I got to play with him. One day we decided to go to these caves on another island and everyone on supernova, my dad and I, and another 2 kids from the marina. We were planning on going to the caves but once we got to the place where the caves were we learned that we needed to reserve our guide a day before we did the tour so we just went to the Red frog Beach. When we got there Larse, Nick and I started building a pool in the sand but it kept caving in. When we finally finished it it was time for lunch. Then we went back to the pool and all the water was drained out. Then Nick's friend Juan came to the beach. Juan and I made sand balls and made a track to race them on. After that it was time to go home. The next day we got our guide and got all ready and we started going to the caves. On the way we had to go up a river with jungle all around us. On this part of the trip we saw 3 sloths. When we finally docked the boat we started walking to the caves. When we got to this hut our guide got our flash lights and everything else ready and we started hiking again to the caves. On the hike we saw coco beans that make chocolate. When we finally got to the place where the cave was it looked like a big black hole and the place were we were looking at it from was mosquito ally. In the five minutes I was standing there I got 5 mosquito bites. After we got all set up we started walking to the cave and once we got in the cave we walked through a running river. As we were walking the river got deeper and it got darker. There were stalagmite and there were bats sleeping. As we were going our guide told us that when it rains really hard (which happened a lot) the caves would flood. He showed us how high the water level was by finding leaves that were on the walls, and how high up they were that was how high the water level was. When we got to the half way point there was a little hole in the ceiling so sun light could shine through. After we rested for a bit we moved on and while we were going the water kept getting deeper and we had to climb over big rocks that were blocking our path. After that our guide told us that we would have to leave our bags where they were because it got really deep because they would get wet. After we got all the bags to a dry spot we went into really deep water and the ceiling was like a foot a way from you head. After that we had to walk to a spot where there were to things hanging from the ceiling and we had to walk through those and I was looking at it and I was wondering if my head would fit through because there was a centimeter of room between my head and the rock. After we got through that we kept walking and we had to climb over some more rocks. After we had walked a bit our guide said that the passage we were in was ending but there was another passage that went in even further and he said we would do that passage. When we got back to where the passage forked we put our bags on a dry spot and started walking to the other passage. In that passage it was really deep the whole way and there was a water fall that we had to climb over. After that there was a huge step that was under water that I stubbed my toe on. After that there was a huge pool where a water fall was and the pool was really deep. After we went for a swim our guide told us that if we wanted to keep going we would have to climb the cave wall then go through a tiny whole in the wall. We said no to that. After we started walking back ducking and swimming until we met up with everyone else. Then when we were all ready we started walking to the cave entrance. When we got there we got all the mud off in the river. Then we started walking back to our boat. On the way back Juan found a tree that was a right angle. When we were back at the boat we washed off again and got in the boat and in the way back we saw 2 more sloths. After we were about half way up the river our guide spotted a crocodile and he started poking it with his paddle so he would move. After he was facing us our guide tried to make the crock bite his paddle but with no luck. After that the rest of the voyage back was uneventful.
