Firstly I must apologize. We are about 10 destinations behind on our travel blogs. This is a mix of not having computers at all our locations and pure laziness. We are currently in Costa Rica enjoying the 30 C plus weather. The blog entries are dated correctly, and hopfully we will be able to catch up. Adding photos take a really good internet connection, so we will add more photos to previous blog entries when we are able to.

With the help of a our Nica bicycle taxi driver we crossed borders and were taken to the first chicken bus headed for Leon.
At this stage there were about 15 Gringos on the bus all heading for the same city. Because most people follow a similiar route, you end up bumping into the same people along the way. But with the Easter weekend aproaching, we all knew accomodation would be scarce. 90% of the travellers are carring the same guide book, with the same recomendations on where to stay, so it gets a bit compeditive.
When approaching your destination, alliances are made with other travellers to cut the costs of paying for the quickest way of getting to town. There are many strategies! One person stays with the bags while the others in the group scout for the available rooms, you reserve what you can and meet back to choose the best option, survival of the ruthless.
Our cab was a bit slow, but the deployment was good and we secured 4 beds in a dorm with our 2 other British allies Ollie and John. Victory for the British Empire!
We chose Leon because we thought that it would be a good place to see the Samaña Santa(Easter) festivities. The hostel "Big Foot" was great with a big court yard with hammocks and a small garden. The people were friendly and the hostel had a communial kitchen so we could cook our own food. The problem was it was HOT AS HELL.

We found an local market with the most "interesting" food on offer check out the pictures.

The town was close to the coast so we decided to spend one day at the beach. We were joined by John and a Canadian girl who we met, they were keen to do a bit of surfing. The beach looked just like Cape Town with water that was a much wamer. Mel and I found a small beach front hotel where we had a great fish lunch. They had a pool, so trying not to look like cheap backpackers we snuck into the pool for a long wallow in the water. Another amazing sunset and we jumped into a cab back to Leon.

That evening I was temped into a small porker game with a few travellers. Well after a few hours on the disiding hand my 3 jacks were sadly beaten by a flush, and I lost out on winning the whole ball of wax. ($20)

We had a week until Samaña Santa and after 2 days we knew we could not stay in Leon for a whole week.
The next day we went back to the beach that we had been at the previous day and stayed in a backpackers for a night. We walked along the beach for a few hours and snuck into the same beachfront hotel for a swim in the pool. For dinner we had a great creamy seafood soup full of fish, prawns, crabs and other goodies. We had a quite evening, and left the next day for Granada.

It sounds like you two should do well in one of those sad TV programmes about other peoples lives ....racing around the world to find things ... whats it called ... the journey.. the race ... something like that ?? Has there been any road rage yet ?? Come on Ken give us the gory bits!!
