Menglun is a non-described town half way between Mengla and Jinghong. a typically one road drive-through. The island like botanic garden probably the most known sight here. It attracted loaded tourist buses came visited everyday. I myself not really interest in plants, together with the heavy tourists scene, I better keep the 80 kuai entrance fee! Not much you could do here in Menglun excepted acted like the locals...started beer by noon in those soda-houses, and sit around bbq stand at night and of course...beer again! In between time, either inside your hotel room for the heat or sit lazily by the Suoluo river, of course...with a cold beer! just kept away from the part near the hanging bridge and the town market place, as the smell wasn't that appealling which reminded me of India! walked further down river to the tiny greenish park where the river water began to run and the air became fresher. I was trying to visit the Jinuo people area from Menglun, but now no public transportation would go there on the old road, nowaday all the bus run the new highway to Jinghong. "what about the local people who live up there in that area along the old road?" I asked. the answer...."they all got either motobike or car now, or village tractor can make the run". so...no chance for poor me, guess I had to wait until I get back to Jinghong and from there bus back up to Jinuoshan area.

How fertile is this area, look at the plantations all along the road, gum-trees, date-palm, coconut, pineapple...you name it! not just made the environment greenish, it also a cash-crops that enriched the locals. no wondered many labour work were only done by immigrants from other part of China, the local were rich by whatever that grow from their land. looking back just 50 years ago, this southern part of China was still a wild forest hill land, where barbarian and head hunting tribe inhabited. not even the Red army dare ventured into this region. only those educated people that been sentence down here for re-educated in labour-camp, and now it is one of the most economic region in Yunnan.
