Minging Blokes
These were just two of the stinking blokes. His feet stunk!! We decided to leave Xian to get out of the madness and chill out somewhere. We needed two trains to get there. You just don’t realize how big this country is.
We set off on the train to Nangyang where we would wait 2 hours for another train to Zanzibar. This was the worst train yet (to date). In a carriage with loads of blokes that all stunk. We were at the end so right outside the bogs (again). After 2 hours and 46 different people had shit and pissed in them it stunk, and I mean stunk. It only got worse. These guys were spiting everywhere, not just flegging but pulling up some proper good green lung butter (its custom to do this here – you even get signs saying ‘No Spitting’). In the end we went to the dining cart and did the last few hours sinking a few beers and playing backgammon.
Arrived in Nanyang and found a small Café (where we became celebrities again!!) to wait until our train arrived. Can you remember the scene from train spotting where he has to shit in the worst toilet in Scotland…well I found even worse…check out the photos!!
Train Victim
The Train hit a woman, she was still alive but sparked out on the floor. everyone was just staring and not helping Caught the train and had a bed until we arrived in Zanzibar. When we got there the directions were wrong to get to the hostel and we sat on a local bus for 1hr circling the city. The driver then took the bus off its route and dropped us off at another hostel in town, which turned out to be pretty good. That same day we went to Wulingyuan Park. This was absolutely amazing. The landscape was like that in Avatar. We took a walk through the gorge. The next day we went back and took the cable car to the top of the mountain. The way down was a series of about 3000 steps and our calves were like rock at the end. An amazing place though and well worth the hassle of getting there. The photies just don’t do justice to how good it actually was.
Next stop Fenghuan a small traditional Chinese village.
Hours spent on trains so far – 180.5, just over 7 full days…that’s 1/3 of our trip!!!!!!!!!
