luke here for number three

I have been a little unforgiving in my appraisals of the Missourah diet and it is with an apology, a smile on my face and a spring in my step I forthwith expand on some of the Show Me State's more amenable appetisers.
steak. new zealanders, given their predilection for farm animals, (we're an intimate nation), know steak. and as a new zealander I am pleased to say, steak seldom involves biscuits, grits, or that confounded gravy.
they in fact serve it as a seared and sumptuous sacrament; the beefy, bleedy equivalent of communion bread; filet fantastique; meaty, mooing manna from heaven.
tender, inviting, and about three inches thick.
they are not confined to superb steak, ladies and gentlemen, oh no, they do wonders with deep fryers too. Soul food is big here, and chicken, collard greens, coleslaw, and chips comprised but one of many delicious meals I've had since my arrival.
and there's steak, of course, did i mention steak - it's good.
and barbecue. I thought I knew a thing or two about barbecue.
The only reason I, and 4.4million other New Zealanders know anything about barbecue, is Missouri. I don't doubt we would have figured it out in the end, but full noise to ya MO, ya did good.
cheesecake. grilled chicken. And ranch dressing also deserve mentions.
and of course pancakes.
IHOP, the international house of pancakes for the uninitiated, don't do much in the way of interior decorating, tablecloths, and devotion to healthy hearts. nor would they feature as number one choice for staff christmas party venues, first dates, or district conventions. in fact some of the people in there would do well to negotiate an apple for breakfast rather than a plateful of flapjacks, bacon and whipped cream but by crikey they can cook 'em. And they can do it 24 hours a day. Some of their clients appear to take full advantage of this flexibility.
you can go a lifetime in Missouri without paddling in the sea, skiing, or watching the Royals without swearing (although they won yesterday, 3 from 11 - you go girl), but in Missouri, ladies and gentlemen, in spite of all this, you'll never go hungry.

South Platte
I can vouch for Luke's appetite for steak. We he stayed with Cherie and I we had steak and Luke was like a rabid beaver trying to eat his way through the Mark Twain National Forest!
